About this FAQ

The Toyota 4Runner and Pickup Page started out as the "1984-1989 Toyota 4Runner FAQ" that was originally developed by Greg Charland, who has since lost his net access. It sat on various servers in limbo for almost a year, until Eric Johnson agreed to take over its maintenance in February, 1996. Many places in the FAQ where is says "I did this..." or "My truck...", it is Greg talking.

Meanwhile, Jack Alford was maintaining a general Toyota pickup page.

In November 1996, Jack and Eric realized they were duplicating a lot of effort. Because the 4Runner and Pickup share drivetrains, most body parts, and aftermarket accessories, they decided that by combining their efforts, they could provide more useful information to the Toyota enthusiast than they could separately.

I (this is Eric talking here) am not an expert on 4Runners, Toyotas, or 4-wheeling in general. I'm just a fan of the 4Runner, and enjoy working on my truck and driving it off the pavement. Feel free to email me with questions, and I'll try to point you in the right direction, but bear in mind that I'm no expert.

Please don't email with questions on where to get certain parts unless you've already picked up the Downey and Northwest Off-Road Specialties (NWOR) catalogs. Their addresses and phone numbers are on the

Parts Sources page. I'm willing to help you find stuff, but 90% of the questions I get can be answered by getting these two catalogs, and they're very useful anyways.
