Hummer releases a pickup version of their capable H3 with a five-foot bed but that is not all. Finding its way in the front of the new H3T is an electronic locker giving the H3T lockers at both ends. Of course there are also the 4.03:1 low-range and 33-inch tires as well. Can you say capable?

The Hummer H3 Alpha is perfect for those looking for a vehicle that can be highly capable in the dirt straight from the factory floor. Its long list of off-road orientated options shows that Hummer is serious about making their vehicles at home in rough terrain.

The H3 is loaded with "odd" features to find on truck this size. Lets start with getting up to 20 miles per gallon! While this isn?t "Prius" great mileage, this is impressive for a 4x4 of virtually any kind, and is particularly anti-hummer in nature.

Wow. A 6.5L diesel with 20 hp and 40 lbs-ft more. And a four speed transmission. These are significant changes.

The big change is the availability of the GM 5.7L TBI V8 gasoline engine with 4 bolt mains. I am told this motor derives from a marine unit. From the first turn of the key, you know it is very different. It has a very distinctive cranking sound and sounds just like a GM.

was quite excited to drive with the new turbo diesel engine. With 45 more lbs-ft of torque from last years turbo diesel, I was expecting some peppier performance. Well I wasn't disappointed. In the wagon I drove, I felt it picked up off the line much nicer than the 96 model. If you read my review of the 96 models, I was not impressed by the 96 turbo. Even with a 95 lbs-ft increase from the non-turbo, it just didn't feel like it.
