Covering the Baja 2000 was a serious endeavor for Off-Road.com. Besides the interviews, video clips and 100's of photos that would comprise our coverage we were dedicated to provide real-time race results from the finish line.
Not making the 1300+ mile trip to Cabo San Lucas was an issue that simply was not on our list. Preparing Project Great White for this trip included many upgrades to make the truck more comfortable, more safe and more robust for the trip down the primitive, challenging and narrow highways of the Baja Peninsula.
After all
the modifications were in place it was imperative that we packed
adequate spares, tools and retrieval items for the truck and the
trip. There are dozens of "Baja Spares Lists" on the Internet, none
were up to the "mission critical" nature of our trip. The list that
follows seems complex and overkill yet, the strong majority of the
list items fit nicely into the Weathergaurd , Saddle Boxes mounted
along the sides of the pickup bed. You're probably asking yourself,
"did they ever use any of that stuff?" Well, yes we did but, not on
our truck. We used the retrieval gear on another vehicle and it
always seemed that whenever someone was looking for a tool, we had
it. We don't pretend to be the "last word" experts on what to take
