The door buzzer was in my 1984 Toyota Pickup SR5 was VERY annoying. Many people that I know that have Toyota trucks tend to disconnect or destroy the buzzer or disconnect the switch at the door. I didn't really want to do that since I wanted the dome light to work automatically. (if you simply remove the buzzer assembly your dome light will not work) | I first disabled the buzzer. I didn't destroy it. A small piece of electrical tape placed between the contacts on the buzzer coil disabled it without harming anything. I soon realized that headlights could be left on without any warning, so I improved on the idea. I got a small piezo buzzer from Radio Shack ($1.59) and about 8 feet of wire ($1.50?) and made a cheap headlight reminder. I soldered a piece of wire to the left side marker light positive wire and ran it into the truck by the fuze box. I connected this wire to the positive of the new buzzer. I ran another wire from the negative buzzer wire to the switch in the door jamb. When I leave the headlights or marker lights on and open the driver's door, the speaker buzzes. With the door closed, the buzzer is silent. The light still illuminates when the door is open due to the switch remaining intact. By the way, the Radio Shack buzzer is effective, but doesn't have the annoying pitch. EDITORS NOTE: I have done the same trick to my 88 4Runner (electircal tape between the contancts), but on my truck the headlight buzzer WAS SEPARATE from the door buzzer. In my case the door buzzer does not work now, but EVERYTHING else works completely normal. -Scott Wilson BACK to the main Cheap Tricks PageFollow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/OffRoadDotCom
