Overview

ELKHART LAKE, WI-From the halls of Harvard to the shores of Huntington Beach, young people--and those who think young--are discovering the fun and affordability of the Geo Tracker. For weekend adventures or daily commuting, it's hard to find a more versatile and stylish sport utility vehicle.

The Geo Tracker is a four-wheeled expression of its owner's individuality. The 1994 lineup includes three models: 2WD convertible, 4WD convertible and a 4WD hardtop. An LSi appearance package is available on 4WD models. Power is supplied by a 1.6-liter SOHC four-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on all models; a 3-speed automatic is optional.

In two-wheel drive form, Tracker is a high-style alternative to conventional passenger cars. It's also one of the most affordable convertibles on the market.

Tracker 4x4's are built for the rough stuff. Tracker's full-length frame features ladder-type crossmembers to resist twisting during off-road driving. Its 7.9 inches of ground clearance and 60.2-inch overall width are comparable to many larger sport/utility vehicles. Automatic locking hubs on LSi models make shifting into and out of 4-wheel drive easy.

Power-assisted steering is standard equipment on 1994 Trackers with the LSi package. Handsome new five-spoke 15-inch diameter aluminum wheels are available on all 1994 Trackers. Ml-season P205/75R15 black-wall tires replace the on/off-road tires used previously on 4WD models. This new Tracker tire has a softer compound and a tread pattern that produces less road noise and a more comfortable ride than dual-purpose designs--a change that reflects the fact that Tracker owners drive primarily on pavement.

There is a serious side to the 1994 Tracker, too. New safety features make the Tracker an outstanding value in the sport/utility segment. The 1994 Tracker meets federal safety standards for side door guard beams and roof bow (roll over). Ml 1994 Trackers are equipped with a new center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL). Other standard safety equipment on 1994 Trackers include a self-aligning steering wheel, rear-wheel anti-lock brakes, brake/shift interlock with automatic transmission, and 5-mph bumpers. Tracker owners also have the reassurance of Geo's 24-Hour Roadside Assistance program. All Trackers--base and LSi--have a fresh look in 1994 with new interior fabrics. An eye-catching "expressive" pattern is available on base model convertibles. Scotchgard™ fabric protector protects the seats in every Tracker. It's an added value feature for stain resistance and easy cleanup. The '94 Tracker isn't a spartan sport/utility. A new console adds the convenience of dual cupholders and additional storage space for personal items. A new dual playback CD/cassette radio is available, and larger speaker magnets improve the high-frequency performance of sound systems in all '94 Trackers. And intermittent wipers are now standard on base models. Three new exterior colors are offered for the 1994 Tracker: Shadow Grey metallic, Sky Blue metallic, and Tropical Green metallic. A high percentage of Tracker buyers are single females. Price, driving fun, and fuel economy are cited by owners as major reasons for purchasing a Tracker. Tracker competes with various models of Jeep Wrangler, Suzuki Sidekick, and lsuzu Amigo. Geo Trackers are built at CAMI Automotive, Inc., Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada.
