Spy photographers recently captured a test mule of the Mercedes GLT pickup truck. This early test truck is based on the Nissan NP300 Navara currently sold overseas. This particular mule was spotted with tacked-on fender flares, however, which is often an indicator of a wider track.

The Mercedes GLT will use the NP300 Navara chassis, though reports indicate the new Mercedes pickup will feature a totally unique exterior design that will include the aforementioned wider stance, which is why is appears this test truck is likely an early version of the new Mercedes.

At this point, the Mercedes pickup will likely be geared toward overseas customers. However, with assembly possible in Nissan’s Mexico plant, Mercedes executives have said they would consider selling the GLT in the U.S. market as well.

We expect the Mercedes GLT will be offered in four- and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, with a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic connected to the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
