Chevrolet Expands Silverado, Colorado Performance Parts Offerings

We took a short ride off the highway at Wheeler's Pass in Silverado and Colorado trucks outfitted with its new performance parts.

The Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association, or SEMA, draws in thousands upon thousands for its tradeshow that focuses on that automotive aftermarket and is held every year in Las Vegas. The show isn’t open to the public, so it’s not easy to get into unless you’re in the industry or you know someone who can get you in.

For those who’ve never been to the show, one of the biggest surprises might be just how much the vehicle manufacturers actually support and foster the aftermarket. Another surprise might be that few displays are larger than those of the vehicle manufacturers at every SEMA Show, in spite of the show’s clear focus on the aftermarket – which, of course, can’t exist without the carmakers.

Chevrolet knows that its buyers will look to customize their cars and trucks, and the brand has a long history of supplying its own performance parts and crate engines to enthusiasts. For this year’s SEMA Show, Chevy invited us out to Spring Mountain Motor Resort outside of Las Vegas in Pahrump, Nevada, for the sole purpose of showing us its expanded parts offering for this coming year. The Spring Mountain facility is a racetrack country club complete with on-track condos, a country club, and of course home to the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School that’s also home to the Corvette Owners School, so it was the perfect spot to show the media its newest accessory and performance parts for the Corvette, Camaro, Silverado and Colorado.

Chevrolet also unveiled a boatload of new parts for the Z06 prior to the 2015 SEMA Show.

Although the sportscar upgrades are certainly cool and we were able to take a few spins on one of the courses in a Z06 Corvette and one outfitted with the new Z51 Performance Package, our focus was primarily on the truck side of things. Chevrolet knows that trucks buyers love to customize their vehicles, and while the company has always offered quite a bit on the accessory side for appearance upgrades, floor mats and bed accessories, the company has been a bit light on the performance side for the truck realm. For the coming year, Chevy is looking to change that by offering its customers more options at the dealer level to provide confident upgrades for buyers who know they won’t void the vehicle’s warranty, and on top of that Chevy can warranty the performance parts also.

Chevy took us just outside of the track to Wheeler’s Pass in Silverados and Colorados outfitted with some of these upgrades, along with a few of its new 2.8-liter Duramax-diesel-powered Colorado (a truck we drove for the few time a few weeks back). Since Chevrolet is currently the only manufacture to compete in all truck segments for 2016 (mid-size, full-size and heavy-duty), the company is intent on growing its performance parts offering in the coming years to offer customers more at the dealer level.

A new exhaust system is available for the Silverado 1500 with both the 5.3L and 6.2L V8.

Chevrolet has more products in the pipeline, but for starters it will offer some key upgrades for the Silverado 1500 and Tahoe and Suburban SUVs. For the 5.3-liter V8 Silverado 1500, Tahoe and Suburban, Chevrolet will offer a new Performance Air Intake (avail. early 2016, part #84016022) for the 2014 model and newer vehicles to increase airflow to the engine to improve performance by reducing air restriction by nearly 20 percent.

New air intake systems are available for both the Silverado and Colorado for the coming year.

To reduce backpressure and provide a performance increase of 10 horsepower, Chevy will also offer a Performance Exhaust for the Silverado 1500 powered by the 5.3L (MSRP $1195, part #23462044, 23462045). Chevy also offers an exhaust for the 6.2L V8 as well in the catalog (MSRP $1195, part #23462042, 23462043), with the performance gain pegged at 7 hp for that application.

A new Performance Brake kit will provided added stopping power for the Silverado.

For added stopping power, a Performance Front Brake Kit (part #84050685) will be available at the start of 2016, fitting the 2014+ Silverado 1500 and 2015+ Tahoe and Silverado. Pricing for the brake kit will be released when it is available.

Chevy didn’t exclude the mid-size segment from new offerings either, and for the 3.6-liter V6 gasoline-powered Colorado Chevy has a few new parts in the catalog as well. First off, a new Performance Air Intake is offered (MSRP $550, part #23206305) to increase airflow to the engine. Chevy will also offer a Performance Exhaust for the 3.6L V6 (MSRP $1195, part #23206304, 23460296) that will produce a 10-horsepower increase. For some added protection on the trails, a new Transfer Case Skid Plate Shield (MSRP $55, part #23282726) will help protect the t-case.

For more information on any these parts or additional upgrades, visit your local Chevrolet dealer for more information, or check out the company’s complete catalog of performance parts catalog.
