Although well disguised, spy photographers recently caught glimpses of the next-generation Honda Ridgeline truck during testing outside of its test facility in Ohio.

There’s been a great deal of truck news in the past year, and it’s great to see that Honda will be taking another go at a pickup truck with its second-generation Ridgeline. According to sketches previously shown at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year, the new Ridgeline appears to have more traditional truck styling overall.

Honda unveiled this concept drawing of the next-generation Ridgeline at the Chicago Auto Show.

In the photos, it’s clear the rear buttresses are gone from the new Ridgeline, as the next-gen Honda truck will feature a blockier profile that resembles a more traditional crew cab truck. According to the photographer, the proportions of the new truck do appear to be smaller than a full-size pickup and more in line with a mid-size pickup, or specifically similar in size to its 2016 Honda Pilot SUV.

Speaking of the Pilot, the Ridgeline will likely share some of its mechanical components with the 2016 Pilot, such as its 3.5-liter V6 and four-wheel drive system. It’s expected the next-gen Ridgeline will feature a six-speed automatic transmission, but it’s possible a the nine-speed trans that’s found on the high-end Pilot trims could also be an option.

We expect to see the new Ridgeline late this year or early next year, with an on-sale date at some point in 2016.
