July Eastern Rock Crawling Event
Competition Rock Crawling on Off-Road.com
 August 2002
The July Eastern Rock Crawling Event (ERoCC) is now completed, and the competition in both divisions was very fierce. Stacy Walker of Easley, SC took top honors in the Legends division, while Troy Meyers was the top finisher in the Unlimited Division.
In the Unlimited Division, Troy Meyers of Badlands Offroad Park returned to the JROCC facility in hopes of bettering his June performance of 3rd place. However, Ken Shupe and Chris Durham, the one-two finishers of the first two events were not going to allow Meyers to take the top spot easily. Shupe was off to an early thrashing, tearing up the obstacles left and right. However, a cut tire on obstacle B-11 put Shupe out of contention for the top spot when he couldn't get the tire replaced in time, and took a 40 on the obstacle. Meyers continued to cut up the field, and settled in after the two day event with a total score of 8... enough to claim top honors for the event. Durham continued his string of 2nd place finishes by finishing with 41 points, and Shupe rounded out the top 3 with a finish of 43 points. This leaves Durham and Meyers tied for second place, and Shupe in sole command of first, going into the ERoCC Finals in September.
In the Legends division, the competition was tight and action packed. Michael Smythe was in first place after the first day of competition, turning in a total score of 94 for the day. However, Stacy Walker was gunning for top dog status as well, and bettered his first day score of 149 by turning in a 65 point performance, taking his total score to 214... good enough for the first place finish. Smythe finished up in second place with 248 points, and ERoCC rookie Mike Cole turned in an impressive 2nd day total of 58 points to claim third spot with a combined two day total of 317.
The next event, which will be the ERoCC Championship event, is scheduled for September 6 - 8 in Jellico, TN.
