Roadless Area Conservation; National Forest System Lands in Colorado
The Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, is initiating a public rulemaking process to address the management of roadless areas on National Forest System lands within the State of Colorado. This rulemaking is the result of a petition submitted by Governor Bill Ritter on behalf of the State of Colorado pursuant to 7 CFR 1.28, reviewed and recommended by the Department's Roadless Area Conservation National Advisory Committee, and accepted by the Secretary. The State requests specific regulatory protections with certain management flexibility for the approximately four million acres of affected lands. The Forest Service will prepare an environmental impact statement to analyze and disclose potential environmental consequences associated with this rulemaking. Plumas National Forest, CA, Plumas National Forest Public Wheeled Motorized Travel Management EIS
The Plumas National Forest (PNF) will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement to disclose the impacts associated with the following proposed actions: 1. The prohibition of wheeled motorized vehicle travel by the public off designated National Forest System (NFS) roads and NFS motorized trails and open areas except as allowed by permit or other authorization. 2. The addition of approximately 375 miles of existing unauthorized routes (including 2 miles in vehicle restricted areas) to the current system of NFS motorized trails. 3. The addition of 36 acres in 1 open area where use of wheeled motorized vehicles by the public would be allowed anywhere within that area. The comment period on the proposed action will extend 60 days from the date the Notice of Intent is published in the Federal Register. Go here for more information.
