SUMMIT COUNTY - The Summit County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Forest Service cited more than 30 people recently for violating wilderness recreation rules in the White River National Forest, according to a release from the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

SUMMARY: The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Forest Service completed the Final EIS (FEIS) analysis for the Clancy-Unionville Vegetative Manipulation and Travel Management Project near Helena, Montana and the BLM has finalized its Record of Decision (ROD) for the Travel Management portion of this project. The Decision is to implement Alternative D modified. This preferred alternative restricts wheeled motorized vehicles to designated roads and trails during varying periods of the year to protect vegetation, soils, water quality and wildlife values. Snowmobiles will be allowed across BLM lands south of Jackson Creek from December 2 to May 15 as snow conditions allow.

The City of Ridgecrest and Kern County are sponsoring a meeting regarding local land management issues. Topics will include the West Mojave Management Plan (WEMO); Settlement Agreements resulting from the lawsuit filed against the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) by the Center for Biodiversity, Sierra Club, and Public Employees for Environmental responsibility; and the upcoming motorized vehicle route designation process (road closures) in the El Paso Mountains and elsewhere in the vast Mojave Desert planning area.

AGENCY: Bureau of Land Management, Interior. SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Price Field Office, Utah, is initiating a planning effort to prepare the Price Field Office Resource Management Plan (RMP). This planning effort involves preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Upon completion, the Price Field Office RMP will replace the existing Price River Management Framework Plan (MFP) and San Rafael RMP. The Price Field Office RMP will establish land use management policy for multiple resource uses on approximately 2.5 million acres of public land and 2.8 million acres of federal mineral resources in the planning area. Sections 201 and 202 of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 (FLPMA, 43 U.S.C. 1711), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the regulations in 43 CFR 1600 direct this planning effort. The new RMP is being prepared through coordination with other federal, state, and local agencies, and affected public..

WASHINGTON, Apr. 5, 2002 -- U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth today announced three leadership changes in the Washington Office staff of the Forest Service. Bosworth announced that Gail Kimbell has been selected as associate deputy chief for the national forest system; Janette Kaiser will become the director of forest and rangeland management; and David Holland is the new director of recreation, heritage and wilderness resources.
