October 2001 -- Guy Petersen claims to have coined the term, ?Off Road Community.?
Between him and I, it?s been a subject of debate, which has taken us
through a cackle of cold ones. But when it comes right down to it, one has
got to admit, he?s the guy who brought that term to reality. | | Baja
2000 winners David Ashley and Dan Smith will show up with their
winning Ford F-150 Trophy Truck. |
The Off Road Expo
will open its doors to an estimated 30,000 off-road attendees the weekend
of October 6-7 to see first hand the late-breaking technology of some 200
vendors. It?ll be the chance of a lifetime to not only witness who and
what goes on behind the scenes of these off-road racing legends and major
manufacturers, but it?ll be your opportunity to confront them with your
questions and listen in on their tech and discussion forms. The Big Buck
Trophy Truck The Herman
Motorsports Trophy Truck will be on display with driver Damen Jeffries
signing autographs and handing out posters in the official Off-Road.com
vendor booths. We'll be located at booths 645, 646, 647, 745, 746 and 747.
When you bust through the main entrance of Off Road Expo, b-line down El
Chinero Road (third aisle on the left) to the ORC booth and have the man
with the camera snap a shot of you and yours and we'll post it on the
internet for the world to see. | | For
the quad racers in the audience, ORC's Honda 400 EX will be on
hand with all the trick mods. |
Honda 400 EX Also on display in
ORC?s home-away-from-home will be a host of Off-Road.com assault
vehicles, which will include our Honda 400 EX, loaded with a Big Gun
Exhaust, Edlebrock Quickstar Carb, American Star Racing A-Arms, Ohlin
Shocks, K&N Filter, Maxis RAZR Tires, Douglas Ultimate Wheels, Factory
Effex Graphics Kit, Motions Pro Twist Throttle and DG Bumper, Swingarm and
Chassis Skid Plates. The San Felipe
Flyer And although it?s
under intense surgery at Lothringer for a severe fracture in the bell
housing, the Off-Road.com/Baja.net unlimited Class 1 four-seat prerunner
will be on hand. With 24-odd inches of wheel travel at each corner and
Hammes Racing Engines-built 300 horsepower Vortec 4.3 Liter motor in the
rear, it may seem like a blast, but it?s a bonafide race and chase recon
vehicle capable of flying flat-out through hundreds of miles of Baja
terrain before calling it a day at the local cantina. | | It's
not just for prerunning anymore. We'll not only have the ORC
prerunner on display at the OR Expo, but we'll also mount a set of
paddles on the beast and take it straight to Glamis for
Thanksgiving! |
Teen Idol Our web-developer
guru Kevin Gorzny will also be on hand along with our long list of ORC
staffers who have working behind the scenes to bring you epic coverage of
such races as the Nevada and Baja 2000 as well as Ford-sponsored
Championship Off Road Racing at Crandon International Raceway in
Wisconsin. The Off Road Expo is
so successful in its second year running, that it?s been sold out since
the month of August. Next year, the plans are to host an additional 100
booths. ?We?ve got a
half-dozen on the waiting list right now and get phone calls everyday from
people saying, ?You got any space? You got any space?? The only thing
I can tell them is to sign on for next year,? says show producer Guy
Petersen, whose stolen Honda XR650 will be on display in the ORC booth. On Saturday, SCORE
International will host the Baja 1000 starting position drawing. We?ll
be bringing that to you live, along with notes and quotes form the legends
who will compete in it. | | Rob
MacCachren and his Class 1/2-1600 will be there in addition to his
CORR Pro 4. |
MacCachren's
Quest
Rob MacCachren?s
CORR Pro 4 championship, record-setting Ford F-150 and Fraley-built SCORE
and SNORE championship Class 1/2-1600 car will also be on display. The man
who?s on the verge of ending the year with a first-ever four points
championships in each of four different series, will be on hand, signing
autographs and answering your best questions on what it takes to be
successful in off-road racing. Also in the mix will
be the Baja 2000-winning Duralast Ford F-150 of David Ashley and Dan
Smith. Rod Hall, another long-time Baja 1000 champion will be present with
Team Hummer?s Lightforce Hummer. Tim, Troy and Ed Herbst will be on hand
with Terrible Herbst Motorsports to display whatever it is they have left
after their completion of the BITD Vegas to Reno race. Also in attendance
will be Steve McQueen?s Baja Boot, Darron Skilton and his world famous
Kia Sportage, Curt LeDuc?s latest creation and whole host of others,
including a slew of others from the rock crawling, motorcycle and ATV
community. The Checkers'
Loot Don?t forget to
lay down some raffle cash for the brand new Checkers Off Road Yamaha
Banshee, that was most likely lifted from our friend Billy Robertson?s
Honda of North Hollywood. Los Pendejos So, drop and by the
ORC booth to lay down your wrath of words for our exclusive and original
Real-Time updates, and get your photo taken by the man with the camera.
I'll buy a round for this first person requesting a Marty Robins tune (our
favorite Slash X tune) from the official Off Road Expo band Los Pendejos,
whose name is. . . "Uh, you probably don't want to advertise their
name on the internet." Why not? We're with
the band. See you there! See you then! |
