Give Them The Respect They Deserve

It's about time that all of us "Evil Anti-Environmentalists" stop trying to win the approval of a group of people that will, regardless of what we do, consider us pond scum. As yourself this...Why do we waste our time trying to win the approval of Eco groups for our activities? It ain't gonna happen.

My suggestion is simple. Stop. Stop giving these people the power over us. Strip away the thin verneer of "respectability" that the word "environment" has allowed them. Give them the same respect they show us. None at all.

It's really easy to do. Take this letter I received today for example.Yup, more hate mail. You know, I honestly love letters like this. You know, "emotional", "passionate", "filled with righteous indignation", and utterly and completely devoid of any rational argument. You know, a temper tantrum.........

Your dissemination of such erroneous "information" borders on criminal. Unfortunately, in all respects other than "moral," the person or persons who prepared the pages have the right to express their collective ignorance, bias and blindness. Some of us are none to thrilled with any of the prospects that "mirror" that of drinking dioxin laden waters downstream from pulp and paper mills which use chlorinated bleaching process. Especially not when alternative, economically viable, chemical processes and fiber sources are available.

Carry those types of applications over to every other industry and a "rational man" ("The Rational Man Theory") would make the choices that reduce the poisoning of the only planet that we have at our "disposal."   That "rational man" proves to be all the more sane when applying alternative processes helps to preserve present day "quality of life."

Speaking solely as a business person looking at the present day and future consequences of human activity, your web-staff's anti-environmental mantras don't hold water relative to saner alternatives.   With great sincerity,

As has become our custom here in the "Being Green" column, lets take these assertions, comments, and blathering one at a time shall we?

You can add my firm to your list at the site http://www.off-road.com/enviro.html

No. I have no intention of advertising your company for free, though you may wish to take out an ad - ain't capitalism grand? ;-). Even if I wanted to I can't due to the fact that you forgot to list your URL, address or phone number. As such, I can only assume that you intentionally left this information out because you feared receiving the same kind of "hate mail" that you sent me. You did however include your e-mail address, so I guess that will have to do for purposes of this article - truehemp@patriot.net. Kind of a strange address, considering you support stripping us of our rights, but I digress....Enjoy the correspondence!

Your dissemination of such erroneous "information" borders on criminal.

I agree!! I really do!! It SHOULD be a crime for groups like Sierra Club to claim that things like "Global Warming" are destroying the planet. It SHOULD be a crime for so called "environmental groups" to take junk science and turn it into a hate campaign that targets all freedom loving Americans, and the fact that they choose to recreate in a legal and wholly acceptable manner. Wholly acceptable that is, except by the Gaia worshipers and tree huggers among you. It SHOULD be a crime for groups like PETA to tell children that circus animals are slave labor, owning a pet violates the animal's rights, "Meat is Murder", and that "Ronald McDonald is a scary, scary clown".

It SHOULD be a crime for groups like Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberation Front to burn private property to the ground, cause millions of dollars of damage, threaten the lives of researchers and their families, throw blood on elected officials, and release thousands of mink into the wild where they devastate the local ecosystem, attack domestic animals, and end up injured or dead in the attempt to round them up.........

Oh wait....that part IS illegal. In your arrogance, you must have missed that. We however, did not.

Unfortunately, in all respects other than "moral," the person or persons who prepared the pages have the right to express their collective ignorance, bias and blindness.

Moral? My dear fanatic, who precisely was killed by radical environmentalists and left you in charge of morality? (Other than Gil Murray and the other victims of Ted Kasynsky of course)

Shall we discuss the "morality" of decimating the logging industry in the Pacific North West on the basis of an owl who was found to be able to live in any damn tree, barn, or K-Mart sign it wanted? How "moral" is it to leave people bereft of income, health care, homes and food? How "moral" is it to destroy families to save a bird that didn't need saving?

Shall we discuss the "morality" of killing the above mentioned people to further an Eco-luddite agenda? Because they saw the world differently, they were murdered in a terrorist act by an environmentally moral crusader for justice. What of their families left behind?

Shall we discuss the "morality" of abolishing medical research to satisfy the scientifically unsound and selfishly motivated desires of the animal "rights" goon squads? Children sent explosives and needles as Christmas presents, razor blades covered in AIDS infected blood and "Eco-fucker hit lists" fit your idea of what is "moral"?

Shall we discuss the "morality" of scaring our children senseless with horror stories of environmental Armageddon on the order of the nuclear hysteria of the 50's? Captain Planet tells kids that man is the root of all evil and the world is about to end. School books distort science (at times abandoning it totally) to press an agenda that says we should be ashamed for living. And this I guess, is OK by you?

Shall we discuss the "morality" of pseudo-science based on never been right yet computer models, and discredited "pseudo-experts" like Paul Eldrich and Al Gore? "The Population Bomb" and "Earth In the Balance" have been soundly trounced by both time and science, yet Eco-adepts would portray them as a Bible for the 20th century and beyond.

Bias? Blindness? You want to talk about Bias and Blindness? Pull the plank out your own eye before worrying about the mote in mine (ours - whatever). You want Bias? Try these on for size......Proponents of the Kyoto treaty totally ignore satellite data showing strong data that Global Warming is a fantasy, and cling to select pieces of data that bolster their conclusions only when viewed in a vaccume. I also refer you to the Bias of the environmental movement in the Spotted Owl fiasco. ("Old Growth Only" my finely feathered bottom) I refer you to the Bias of the EPA when ignoring scientific fact when setting forth policy to promote the Green Agenda, at the cost of actual environmental welfare. I refer you to the EPA actions in Leadville Colorado.

No Todd, the bias here is not ours, It's yours, and those like you. People who willfully remain ignorant of the facts, people who have fallen victim to the propaganda of the most polluting creation man has yet devised. The Environmental Machine. You know, the "machine" that tells us "all men are created EVIL", "man is a cancer on the face of the earth", and "if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we'd be against it".

(Side note - Why aren't PETA and ALF groupies lining up to replace the animals in question?)

Some of us are none to thrilled with any of the prospects that "mirror" that of drinking dioxin laden waters downstream from pulp and paper mills which use chlorinated bleaching process. Especially not when alternative, economically viable, chemical processes and fiber sources are available.

Oh foolish me, I guess that us evil outdoor recreationalists ACTUALLY WANT to drink dirty water, eat poison food, breathe polluted air, and so on and so on. Ah.......that would be "no". You took the bait and ran with it hard didn't you. Your argument assumes falsely, several things. First, that your own hemp business is pollution free (it is NOT) , that all paper mills pollute to the point of environmental annihilation, and that chlorinated bleaching processes are used just cuz them thar fat white guys like wasting their money and destroying the planet just for poop & giggles.

Wrong. If there was any more economically viable method, they'd be on it like bark on a tree. It would increase their bottom line. And since the EPA has hyper-regulated industry to the point of absurdity, these plants have to meet the ever changing guidelines thrown at them, or be shut down. Ergo, they are far, far cleaner today than at any point in history. Overall, this could be argued as a good thing, but as a side note, many of these regulations do squat for the environment, and cost these companies money. Money I will point out that could be used for research into making other technologies like those of which you speak, financially viable.

Ah!, the "rational man" argument rears it's head. "Rational men" do not ignore science to bolster a fanatical agenda at all costs. "Rational men" do not jump on the latest bandwagon promising Eco-salvation merely because teachers, economists, and "experts on ancient Chinese herbal remedies" calling themselves "global climatologists" tell them the sky is falling. "Rational men" don't claim "animal research has never resulted in advancement in medical science" when things like the polio vaccine, organ transplants, and other wonders of modern medicine exist as fact.

"Quality of life". "Quality of life" includes things like electricity. How do you propose we generate electricity without coal, (mining), oil / natural gas (drilling & transport), nuclear (efficient, clean in comparison), wood (there's them trees again), wind (takes space, and supposedly wipes out entire flocks of birds apparently too vision impaired to see a 100 foot tower / 50 foot fan blade) or hydro (causes Darryl Cheney (sp?) to fantasize about strapping bombs to his person and tour them - if only briefly).

Oops, forgot the great savior - Solar. Takes up hundreds of acres to power a small town, costs a fortune, radically alters the ecosystem (light cant get to the ground, eliminates habitat, and destroys the biodiversity of the area.

Gee, that's what they say "WE DO"!!!!

Generally speaking, "Quality of life" relies on civilization. Not everyone (in fact only a tiny fraction of 1% of the population are willing to forgo the luxuries of toilet"paper" (try wiping with hemp sometime), heat, light after the sun goes down, books with paper you can actually read from, transportation other than stagecoach and ox cart (which "enslave animals"), medical care by a doctor (not witch doctor) in a functional medical facility, and clothing that doesn't have the oh so supple softness of burlap. Need I go on?

Speaking solely as a business person looking at the present day and future consequences of human activity, your web-staff's anti-environmental mantras don't hold water relative to saner alternatives.

Oh please Todd, spare me the environmental propaganda. Like your fellow Gians, you blather endlessly, stomping your feet, and saying "Listen to me!!!! Listen to me!!!! I say so and it's TRUEEEEEE!!!! IT is!!! IT IS!!!! Waaaaaa!!!!

Reality notwithstanding

Labeling us "anti-environmental" shows your stubborn refusal to see the forest for the trees. We at Off-road.com believe in functional solutions to our environmental problems, not "check writing, feel good environmentalism"

Allow me to the first to inject some much needed reality into your life.

Stop acting like a petulant child, and grow up!. Stop blaming corporate America and those with whom you disagree for all the trouble in the world. Stop supporting environmental groups like the Sierra Club whose money goes to 6 figure salaries rather than scientifically sound solutions for environmental woes. Stop denying the reality of the situation, the science behind it, and solutions that get results without crippling the economy.

Do this and you will earn the respect of those like like us who would gladly join you in the quest for a healthy planet. Ignore it in favor of your Eco-religious fanaticism, support of terrorist groups, and admitted "anti-human" organizations, and you'll get all the acknowledgement, credence and respect you deserve.

None at all.

See, Nothing to it!
