It's Not Easy Being "Green"

Source: Off-Road.com
Each and every month here at Off-Road.com, I look forward to writing the "Being Green" column because frankly, I just can't wait to tell you all what utter stupidity the "environmentally correct" citizens of the world have come up with. It's a guilty pleasure of mine because in truth I'd much rather front page a headline on ORC like....

"Sierra Club Abandons Self-Serving Extremist Platform
In Favor of Real Environmental Progress"

Yea.....like that will happen any time soon. Soooooo...... Until it does, here's the latest installment of eco stupidity to come down the pike sent in by one of our loyal readers. It seems that the latest affront to our sensibilities comes in the form of ....get this....Flyers left on SUV's asking the owner to justify his ownership of said vehicles! Rather than take the "flyer" apart piece by piece, I'll just make a couple points.

  • Neither I, the recipients of the flyer, nor anyone else has to "justify" a damn thing to anyone regarding what vehicle we choose to drive.
  • Since most flyers of this type have to be placed "on" our vehicles, that constitutes vandalism - I.E. "Defacement of Private Property". In fact, many communities around the country have laws specifically forbidding the practice.
  • Since flyers of this type often enrage the recipients, they often rip them off and toss them on the spot, regardless of their normally environmentally correct intentions. Had the eco-wannabee not defaced the private property in question, this pollution would not have occurred.
  • Using "used" office materials" for flyers ensures that any workplace "recycling program" is rendered useless. If the materials in question end up in the garbage or blowing around the street, what's the point?
  • Lastly, The toxic inks used in the printing of these flyers - now garbage - will eventually make their way into the water, contributing to water pollution, endangering fish, and altering the biodiversity of the local aquatic environment.
<Rant> With that out of the way, let's drive our freely chosen, purchased, and owned SUV's down the beaten path to a place I like to call "Mr. Lenhart's Neighborhood".

In my neighborhood, it's considered rude to lay your greasy paws on someone's property. That was a lesson that Granny taught me REAL EARLY in life. Defacing someone else's property is considered illegal, and grounds for prosecution, if not "persecution" - with extreme prejudice.

But you see, this latest in a long line of eco-stunts is considered perfectly acceptable by it's perpetrators. Since they don't recognize the concept of private property and ownership thereof; since the laws of the constitution, the states, and the respect for the "property" (there's that word again) are meaningless in the "fight to save Gaia", your SUV is a perfect place to vent their guilt and forward their subversive political agenda.

Sure, to the average person this seems like a non-violent, peaceful way to "spread the gospel" of environmentalism, and it seems like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but things aren't always what they seem. Ask yourself this.....Where does it stop?

If an eco warrior wants to graffiti your Jeep with his miniaturized version of the Unabomber Manifesto, What's to stop anybody with an axe to grind from doing the same? How about

  • The American Nazi Party
  • National Man Boy Love Association
  • ActUp
  • NOW
  • PETA
  • ALF (though they'd just as likely burn your SUV to ground as deface it)
  • Democratic Socialists of America / Democratic National Convention (same thing)
You know,..... any fundamentally offensive group out to destroy your rights as an American, and well versed in the art of militant propaganda.

Free Speech? Not even a consideration here. If it were, many communities around the country with laws banning this practice would be in direct violation of the first amendment. They of course are not.

The bottom line is this. These people are control freaks with an agenda, guilt, and delusions of personal importance. They consider the SUV as a cornerstone of environmental evil that must be eliminated at any cost...and that's a cost that they intend to pass on to you.

And while I'm on the subject of SUVs and cost, why should "WE" pay higher insurance rates to drive a safer vehicle? If someone chooses to buckle in to a microcar rated only slightly higher than a honeydew melon in crash tests, I say let them - maybe it's time to thin the herd. Let these people squeeze themselves into a 4 wheeled casket. After all, it's a free country - at least it used to be. But make THEM pay for the "privilege".

We have to stop this stupidity now. Stop acknowledging these people's imaginary authority. Stop giving them power over our lives. Stop allowing their senseless "logic" and utter lack of integrity to determine the laws which govern you and ....."Future Generations".</rant>
