H.R. 1842.

Congressman Jim Gibbons (R-NV) Co-sponsor of the bill has expressed grave concerns over the American Heritige Rivers Initave.. H.R. 1842 would terminate further development and implementation of the American Heritage Rivers Initiative. Gibbons states AHRI is "just another example of federal government intrusion, with a government knows best, one size fits all approach".

H.R. 1127.

Congressman Gibbons is also a cosponsor of H.R. 1127, which amends the Antiquities Act to require an Act of Congress and concurrence of the Governor and State legislature for the President to establish national monuments in excess of 5000 acres. H.R. 1127 puts into place a set of checks and balances, allowing Congress to once again oversee the use and designation of public lands. Simply put, H.R. 1127 ensures that Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument cannot happen again. As Congressman Gibbons states...

"Bruce Babbitt convinced the President to create, in the dead of night, to the surprise of Utah's lawmakers, a designation that prohibits the mining of coal in the largest untapped energy reserve in the continental United States, and...effectively stripped tax revenue from nearly 200,000 acres of school trust lands".

Congressman Jim Gibbons serves on the Committee On Resources, Subcommittee on National Parks and Public Lands and the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. To quote Dick Young of the Lake Tahoe Hi Lo's..."Gibbons is carrying the gauntlet for you and me. He deserves our support."
