I'm curious. Could you post it? And email pictures
if you can (but not into the list). I'll put them up on
a web page.

Could anyone tell me if cold air comes out of the rear floor vents that are
located in the back passenger floor board. If so, does the cold air blow
out the rear floor vents the same temperature as the air on the dash vents
and can you regulate the flow of air that blows out of the rear floor vents
by the dial that is located on the dash. In other words, the first setting
on the dash board would blow a little air, and the highest setting would
blow the highest amount of air out the rear floor vents. If enough air comes
out the rear floor vents, maybe a small plastic insert(like a WetVac Vaccum
Attachment) could be placed on the vent to redirect the air in an upwards
motion to help cool the back occupants or cool the truck.

Went to Dallas to play golf in a Suburban that had 230,000 miles. When we
finished playing it was 101 degrees outside and who knows how hot it was
inside the truck but with the seperate rear controls for the rear passengers
that blow from the top downwards it didn't take but a few minutes before the
whole truck was cooled down.

Thanks,

Rick

I am thinking about getting chrome wheels for my ML430 when it arrives. The
price on the options list was $1200 (although I am not sure if that is for
the ML320 wheels or the ML430 wheels). I have never had a vehicle with
chrome wheels. Do any of you have an opinion about chrome wheels? I hadn't
even considered it until I read Bill's post.

Thanks...........Richard

PS.....Anyone else have an opinion on whether I should get the black brush
guard for the ML430 (I am getting the black side-step bar). Most of the
feedback from my original post was about the gold package. What I really
wanted was advice/opinions about the MB brush guard.

Does anybody know of a dealer who's been able to get M's for people quickly in Northern California? We'd even be willing to go to LA if necessary. We've been on the waiting list with Hacienda Motors (Pleasanton, CA) since 11/97. During that time, the sales guy has called once. When we've called him to ask questions about new colors, features, etc. he either hasn't known anything or has been flat out wrong!

At this point we're pretty sure we've wasted 9 months waiting, and are looking to take action.

Any thoughts?

actually I kind of like the MB station wagon, the one that has the E-class

because of the tires used during he tests? using the generals which are for

anyone with off- road designed tires on their MLs, and how does it preform? i
was told there was an off-road magazine doing an article on the ML, how did it

Hey guys,
We are trying to decide between the new 32V V8 Navigator or the ML430, but
I have something else to discuss. You mention that the ML has a 100,000
mile tune-up interval. As a long time Ford fan, I am here to tell you
that plugs don't last that long at least in the Ford's we have owned. At
least have them checked at 60,000 miles. I think you will find them to be
extremely worn. I know quite a number of people with cars having either
the Ford modular V-8, Duratec V-6, and GM's Northstar that cannot get more
than 60K out of the plugs. 100K tune-up intervals are a marketing ploy,
be it from domestic or foreign manufacturers.

I thought I would let you know what happened to me just the other day. I
am on the waiting list (deposit submitted in early July) for an ML430 at
a Houston dealership. I was not expected to get one until Jan. '99. I
went to my local MB dealer in Beaumont, TX to see if the Imperial Red
was still going to be offered for the ML (its not), and found a ML430
that will be in by the end of Aug. It was exactly what I wanted, so I
put my name on it and will have it before Labor Day weekend.

Basically, my point is that look at the dealerships in the smaller
cities of California. Although they get smaller allocation, sometimes
you can get one because of the relative obscurity of the ML430. No one
in this town really knows that the V8 is going to be made for the
M-class.

I was informed by a MB dealer that the ML430 would be offered in
Imperial Red, a candy-apple red color. Being the big fan of red cars

decided to not offer this color. I thus chose Black, but had my heart
set on Red with Tan interior.

Does anyone know why MB will not offer this color. Is it to loud,
costly, or is there fear of questionable interest in the color?

I am doing the remote start/alarm today Either Python or Viper. I

If I get finished early enough I will do the Manik

Hi Scott, We installed a manik brush guard in my ML, My nephew and I
(well, more him than me) but u will need two people, it has got good
directions but hazy and vague drawings to follow., all the holes are where
it was supposed to be but do not tigjhten any nuts until the very end, this
where we lost a lot of time, he would tighten up the nuts then we needed to
adjust it and it goes on and on. So leave room for play and adjustment, it
took us two hours (at night with only a work light) to install it. BTW how
was the rear light guard install, did u have to drill anyrthing?
Peter

I am interested in the remote starter too, tell me how it goes and if u
quote me the price maybe I'll drive to ur shop (from Boston)

I did drill but you could have used the self starter screws that came
with it. It was easier to drill by myself with no one to hold them.
I used a vicegrip and drilled them. Easy as cake to do. I sell the
rear
guards for 130 in case you cant find them local.

I am doing the 1500 HF. That is an alarm and remote starter. 339-
installed most cars. I will let you know about this puppy tomorrow.

I would do the window module but don't have wiring for the windows
yet. This car is a pain in the ass. They hold these items too close
to the vest.

I will call DEI and see if they have wiring. They didn't 2 weeks ago.

Cheers

This is a repeat of the message I sent out yesterday:

>Maybe you have alll figured that this helps but I thought I'd repeat it again.

If you direct ALL of you vents to the roof, pull out the rear cargo cover, turn on the A/C to recirculation (on the dial only...not the button. This causes the fan to blow stronger, shortening your wait), turn up the fan speed to 3 or 4, then just wait two minutes. That's it! You will be surprised how well this works.

Because of the intense heat when I first get into the truck I immediately roll down the front two windows, set the A/C controls, then after folding up the windshield sun visor I roll up the windows and I'm ready to go ! Nice and cool regardless of outside temp!<

Hope this is useful.

Thanks,

Rick

Sorry,

There was part of your question I didn't answer. Yes the air coming out of the rear vents is at the same temp as the front. Regulation of the air is done with the dial on the dashboard. Instead of trying to redirect air to the rear I have found it much more efficient to have all of the air come out the dash vents and angle them all up toward the roof. This truck cools off twice as fast this way. Sounds strange I know but give it a try.

It would be a great idea if someone could come up with a plug or better yet a cap that can redirect air to cover the rear vents. Currently the rear vents shoot air under the rear seats and it ends up in the carco area first. Actually, agreat idea if you have the rear seats installed.

Subject: power steering

i got a car (non-m) in my stall today that had a groaning noise when the
wheel was turned at low speeds. i checed the power steering fluid level
and found it to be low. this car's power steering system is similar, if
not the same, as the m's. the next step was to look for leaks, i didn't
find any. this has happened twice with m's. i decieded to look for
more info in the MB service lit. it stated that i sould remove the
bellows on both sides of the rack, and look for oil. they were both
filled with oil, so i need to replace the rack. if your vechicle has
low fluid and the dealer cannot find any leaks, tell them to remove the
bellows to look. also, since there will not be any drips on the floor
if this happens, check your P/S fluid level often (every week or so).
the upper engine cover is in the way, just pull up gently until you feel
it "snap", then there is enough room to remove the dipstick-cap from the
pump resivor.

i hope this helps,

Subject: Short Delivery Time / A/C

I ordered my white 1999 ML 320 with M1, grey interior, sunroof, and Bose on a
Thursday expecting a 4-6 wk+ delivery time. I was told two weeks which
surprised me no end, I got a call Monday morning saying "it's here" picked it up
that afternoon! 4 day delivery time! They will have to start dealing soon! Now
there are two silver MLs for sale sitting in the lot of Mission Viejo Imports,
in Southern California.

I noticed the A/C performance is not impressive, I followed advice I have read
in this mailing list, it works, but is still not impressive. The A/C system
checked out fine at the dealer and is the way it's supposed to be. The service
representative told me that there is a temperature gauge in the cab somewhere
which feeds back to the climate control system. This is news to me. He
mentioned that the system pulses the A/C slightly and stops it from blasting
cold air constantly even when it's warm in the cabin.

Does the ML really have an active climate control system, or is this service
representative mistaken?

I put these on yesterday. Took about 20 minutes for the rear guards
and about 1.5 hours for the steps. Would have been easier with a lift
and air tools but...

I am doing the remote start/alarm today Either Python or Viper. I
will let you know how they turn out tomorrow.

If I get finished early enough I will do the Manik
brushguard/headlight Guard today as well.

Cheers,

Frank,

Thanks for the info. My power steering started to make a loud growling noise
upon first startup while I was on a trip to the mountains in north Georgia.

When I got back to Virginia, I took it into the dealer for an oil change and
mentioned the power steering noise. The dealer checked the fluid level and
found it low. Service advisor said it was topped off and that if it occurred
again, the pump would be replaced.

There was one other post here about pump failure. Based on your post I will
check my level more often.

Jim
