I installed Lorinser RS-3 18" x 10" wheels on my ML a couple months
ago and
love them. These five-spoke wheels, with a polished rim and silver center,
are absolute traffic stoppers and very well proportioned to the vehicle
(They also come in a 20-inch diameter). They are fitted with Yokohama AVS
S/T tires (285/50R18H) which maintain approximately the same outside
diameter as the stock wheel/tire combination. They are quiet, have more
grip than you can use in on-road applications, and have a unique and
attractive unidirectional tread pattern. I haven't tried them off-road
yet, but they should be good in most conditions. The large tread blocks
and wide width would not be good in the snow, however; I'm going to put
75-series M+S tires on my stock rims for that.
I got the wheels and tires through a local performance wheel dealer, who's
distributor is CEC (Claus Ettensberger Corporation: www.cecwheels.com).
The only drawback is both are very expensive. The wheels list for $1,190
each (though I got some discount) and the tires were $300 each, because
they had to be imported from Europe at the time.
