It really depends upon your exposure. If you have seen way too much
of it overdone on crappy cars it will make a luxury car seem
significantly 'dressed down'. On the other hand, if you haven't
seen much of it , etc etc.
I grew up in Northern Ca. and I'll tell you that you will find ALL
of this gold treatment in Oakland, in the mission, and in the
tenderloin (in any concentration).
I'd stick the the chrome wheels. I think this is the only accessory
that is universally accepted by all (almost all, there will always
be someone).

Andy:
I relocated to Northern California within the last 6 years from the
East Coast
and still tend to categorize the "gold thing" with your
list.Curiously out
here, the gold treatment is not perceived that way. On a new
upscale vehicle,
it is quite common and is often also accompanied by after-market
expensive
chrome wheels, almost to the point that if you don't see these two
add-ons,
the car looks a little dressed down.
The owners run the gamut from professionals to software
enterprenuers, young &
old. Curious local "car culture" phenomena? Cultural influences
from the
significant latino and asian population segment? I don't really
know but I now
find myself thinking it's not too bad looking on the right car.
