Ed,
All Mercedes-Benz safety systems for vehicles are designed assuming the passengers use seat belts.
Submarining is when the force of the impact is so great that one could slip, knees first, slip from under the seat belts. Mercedes has developed a patented system that keeps the seat cushion from ripping lose and allow your body to slide from under the seat belts.
BTW, air bags are designed to help revent injuries while wearing set belts. Air bags alone won't do you much good.

I know that when people don't wear seatbelts it is very important to keep
them from submarining so that the air bag can still work. I have no
knowlege in this area, but would also like a better understanding.

--
Harold Pietschmann
• Writer • Photographer •
• Professional 4x4 Training •
• 4WD Consulting •
http://www.4x4abc.com

</x-html>From ???@??? Its fit and finish are superb. I've looked at the new E closely and it docent appear much better built than the ML. But then again it is only my impression. ======================================================================= M-Class Mailing List http://www.off-road.com/mbenz Subscription Info http://www.off-road.com/mbenz/guideline.html Sponsored by Clair Parts Express: http://www.clair.com/parts/index.html *** Send [Un]Subscription message to majordomo@lists.off-road.com ***** ======================================================================= M-Class Mailing List http://www.off-road.com/mbenz Subscription Info http://www.off-road.com/mbenz/guideline.html Sponsored by Clair Parts Express: http://www.clair.com/parts/index.html *** Send [Un]Subscription message to majordomo@lists.off-road.com *****
