Stage 1 (SIII, 109", V8)

Source: Off-Road.com

Years: Feb 1979-1985

Numbers Built:

Unknown. An approximate upper bound is 58,000. This number is based upon a model that predicted the number of 109" built for the years in question. So 58,000 includes non-Stage 109"s. I wouldn't be surprised if the true number is around 40,000

Engine: Petrol: 3528 cc, 91 bhp @3500 rpm, 166 lb-ft @2000 rpm, V8

Weight: 3396 lbs

Distinguising Features:

Grill flush with wings; wire mesh, rectangular grill, windscreen attached via pillers on the instruments located in front of the driver; a dash board; recessed headlights mounted in the bulged sides; square doors; steering arms under the swivel pin housing.

Notes:

  • The Stage Is were all 109".
  • The number of Stage Is built is unknown because Land Rover switched over to VINs. So all Chassis numbers are jumbled together and there there isn't an easy to pull the Stage I data out from the other 109" and 88" data.
