Have you corrected for the increased tire size? This will lower your
speedometer and odometer readings, giving you a false mileage.

I have just replaced a 2.8D timing belt. The factory manual recomends
replacement every 100,000Km. They even have a counter built into the
spedo to warn you. This is the same unit on the 2, 2.2, 2.4L diesels.
Has anyone gone longer than the 100,000KM say 200,000 or more on the one
belt. This is the second time I have done the job, which is a real pain.
I cant see any real wear on the belt that would tell me to repace it. I
think this is just one of those get money out of you service deals and
was thinking of going to 200-300K next time.

Subject: Re: Throttle body black goo??
Well that was my opinion until recently. More than likely (notice I'm
not saying absolutly) it is the EGR system feeding oily exhaust into the
plenum... After looking at a 22RE plenum, the EGR when it enters at the
back has a tube that runs the length of the plenum and opens up right
behind the throttle plate. If your engine is going through oil at any
kind of rate, this is probably where some it is ending up.
Cleaning it helps a bit. If you clean the manifold channels you'll get
a little better breathing for a while (depending on how bad it is)...
But as Luke mentions, it will eventually interfere with the throttle
plate. Either with intermittent sticking open a bit (revs won't come
down below 1500 or higher) or may stick closed (hard peddle operation or
even snapping of the throttle cable, though I'm pretty sure you'll
notice something wrong long before anything like this happens) If you
are going to clean it up, take great care to protect the TPS from
contamination with the cleaner you use (ie: don't let it run down the
shaft the plate is mounted on. kaching! $75+)

I broke a front passenger side leaf and a rear add a leaf. This was their
two inch soft ride suspension. I was wheeling in deep sand that you needed
four low to get around or you would bog down (atleast with my 22RE).
Extremely soft sand.

I have never used antiseize on the lug nuts but I do try and use it on the
back of the wheels. Especially if they are dessimiliar metals like
Aluminum and Steel.
I seem to have a problem of losing lug nuts. I checked the front lug nuts
this past weekend and they were loose. We had them off when we did the OME
suspension upgrade two weeks ago.

I've been using anti seize on my vehicles for at least ten years now, never
had a problem with them working loose or getting stuck. It is important to
use anti seize and not grease or other lubricant, though. The torque specs
for most fasteners is specified "dry" and adding a general purpose lubricant
can change actual tightness for a given torque. I do find I need to clean the
wheel studs and reapply the anti seize peroidically.

Stay out of Midas and Meineke!! They have quite the racket going.
>>
Let me add to Ken's comments: My Meineke shop did ok brake work for me on
other 2wd vehicles before this 4wd 4runner. When I went in for front brakes
on the 4Rnr, I was quoted $150. Ok. They called back 2hours later saying
they had to tear up the front seals to do the job...seals another $40. I
said ok (po'd), then got angry and called them back to say forget it, the
toy dealer would do the whole thing for about $160. Too late, it was on the
rack with everything off. I said ok, finish it up, then when I went to pick
it up, I called the owner outside and argued my $40 back because they didn't
tell me about that up front. About 30 days later the rotors warped and spent
+$300 at toy dealer replacing everything again (with new rotors). I saw the
old rotors, Meineke musta filed them with a hand metal file. There were
gouges everywhere. Moral for 4wd? Go to dealer. 'Nuff said. I assure you my
dealer will put my soon to be added warn hubs too. I might even let them do
my coil/shock upgrade since I don't know jack about extending the brake
line.
By the way, my dealer offers oil changes for $9.95 while you wait. Anybody
else see this in your town?
Sorry for more ranting.... Mark Normand

Got beat to death a while ago, but it basically amounts to this. They do
increase performance a little, by providing less of a restriction. However
they don't filter as well as a paper filter (somebody did a big study on
industrial equipment), and are noisier. If you get the complete airbox kits,
you get more power & noise than the stock airbox. Don't even think about a
K&N if you do serious mudding or water in you truck, paper stops water to
some degree, K&N's don't provide any protection at all.

1) Disconnect the fluid brake lines from the backing plates.
2) Remove the wheels and brake drums
3) Remove the 4 bolts from the backing plate
5) Slid out the axles about 4"
6) Remove the drive shaft
7) Remove the bolts around the diff and pull it out.

I went 10k (miles) over on my old '91 Phord Escort, and it left me stranded
(but not with a damaged engine, thank god). Not sure if that engine is an
interference engine. If it is, I'd probably do it, otherwise your only risk
is getting stranded, no engine damage.

Ooh, I hadn't thought about that one. Maybe that will explain some of
my disappearing oil. It'd be nicce to know where it's going, even if I
