Wrong gap, Steve. Rick is referring to the pickup air gap and not the
rotor/distributor gap. This gap is not a part of an electric circuit.
A overly large gap could lead to the pickup coil not getting a good
enough signal to trigger the ignition system into firing properly.
Misfiring would be a symptom to look for.
FWIW, the problem with the welder's is not the resistance of the gap
per say. The larger the gap the larger the voltage required to jump
the gap. The power supply in the welder tends to be constant power.
As you up the voltage it puts out you lower the amperage. It's the
amperage that's required to deposit the energy into the weld.

*CHOKE* oh thats my foot in my mouth.
guess I messed that one all up...
FWIW I took my weld certification test today and its going to XRAY.
This one looks good and it should pass.

You are using springs aren't you? if not, you'll tear the hell out of
everything when you take it to the trail...

To: Toy4x4 Do you read the magazines??
Someone did mention outside of Barstow. If you go to the Calico mines
there are a couple of 4 trails there. First place I broke a steering
 arm.
Also somewhere down there, not quite sure how far from LA but you have
Jackhammer,Sledgehammer etc. There is Surprise canyon also.
There are a lot of roads in the Bear lake area also. Rick Russel has a
video of the Bear lake area (outside of San Bernadino (sp)).
Not sure if you are into wheeling that hard. They are some tuff trails
I hear (never been there yet). And, Surprise canyon you need a winch
 and low gearing.

 i suggest considering a garmin 12xl
i have a garmin 45xl and love its capabilities: i carry it while i hike
(in one of the highest pockets of my fishing vest), antenna extension
cable from radio shack to mount on window, ability to download points to
pc or macintosh, powered both by battery or cigarette-lighter...
the 45xl is the older model and has trouble keeping its lock on
satellites if in dense forests or deep narrow canyons (to sail or on the
 desert its 100%)
but the 12xl, with twelve channel availability works even indoors --
 i've been told...
so i'd like to upgrade to a 12xl...
if someone wants to get started with gps and lives in an open space
situation, i'll sell you my 45xl set up... contact me directly..
or for garmin info go to:

To: "Toy4x4 List" The wire you want to interrupt is the negative wire going to the coil.
Cut it and run two wires into your cab somewhere hidden (under the seat,
glove box, under the dash, etc.) and attach these two wires to a simple
on/off toggle switch. Be sure to solder all the connections - if one
comes loose while you're driving, the engine will die! If your truck has
EFI, I believe its the black wire with a white stripe going from the
amplifier module to the negative terminal on the coil.
A friend of mine with a Landcruiser put a headlight dimmer switch on the
floor. He used the wire off of the engine fuse. I think my 82' has an engine
 fuse as well.
I like this idea because no one will look twice at it.
 Just my thoughts.
When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest
tires always has the right of way.

This isn't the wailing sound of a dry power steering pump, is it?

I just got my letter from Toyota about the 3.0L V6 head gasket recall,
and since I'm new to the KC area I don't have a clue where I should get
 this work done.
Can anyone who's familiar with this area tell me where to go or where
 not to go?
 Thanks in advance,
 Jeff Delzer
