Fellow Toyota 4X4 Owners,
It saddens me to say that I will soon have to enter the miniv*n market,
which means parting ways with my 4Runner Limited. Here's what she's got
on her:
Hunter Green Metellic Leather Interior w/ wood dash
Rear Heat 4-wheel ABS
Running Boards Brush Guard w/ Hella 550's
Bug Deflector 31" Tires on stock alloys
Moon Roof Hitch (Toyota)
AM/FM/Cass/CD Power win, locks,
Toyota Alarm System Gold pkg.
Kelly BB is $26,500. I'm asking $26,000. It is in immaculate shape,
never been off-road. Oil changes every 5k using Mobil 1. I will travel
within reason to meet serious buyers. I can e-mail a pic upon requst.

From: Martin Gotch Subject: 4Runner tire sizes
To: Toy4x4 I would like to replace the factory street tires (P265/70R16) )on my (wif=
e's) 96 4Runner Ltd with BFG AT P285/75R16 (on stock 16" alloys). Size wi=
se, this is like going from the 31's to the 32's. Has anyone tried this=
on a 96+ 4Runner w/16" alloys? At 10 cm wider each side of the tire and=
about 5 cm taller it looks like there should not be a problem, but you c=
an't tell for sure unless you try it out. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm sure that they're burnt up because the last time that I put it in
4wd the flange yoke on the third member broke because the gears wouldn't
mesh anymore. I wanted to try to get away with a few more miles like you
said, but that wasn't going to happen.

JASON WROTE:
I'm still looking around for lockers and the 4x4 shop near me in SC said
that Lock Rights wear out after a few years. I've also heard that
Detroits
are a lot stronger that the Lock Rights because that replace the whole
carrier. But, my question is....Have any of you ever had a problem
with
Lock Rights. I'm trying to figure out if I should spend the extra $$$$
on
a Detroit.

Jason,I think the problem of lockrights wearing out only pertains to the
early models when they were called LA LOCKER.Everyone i've spoken to
about lockrights seems happy with them.Lockrights also have less
driveshaft windup than a Detroit(or so i've heard). On your web page it
says you want 36" tires,so i would definatly go with the stronger
detroit locker.
Just my $0.02

I stand mildly corrected :)
Is it true about the driveshaft slop?Thats the only thing
that(mildly)bothers me about my Detroit. You can feel it in the shifts.I
heard that lockrights were a little tighter, and i almost bought one,but
i still believe the Detroit is stronger. So if you've never broken a
lockright with 35's my detroit should handle 44's! :)

I doubt that there is much difference in the slop, it is there regardless.
I like my lockers but the fact that I got them both for about $400 and
installed them myself helps. If I had the money I'd get the detroits, no
air lockers for me.

I agree with that.If i was low on cash i definatly would have gotten
lockrights. They have a pretty strong following.I also like the fact that
if you ever did break one its fairly easy to swap the stock guts back
into the carrier, without having a truckload of spare parts on hand.

I have the one from RMOR. I used the mounting hw that came with it.
The 'perch' isn't very high, maybe a couple of inches at most.

Timing Belt, 3.0L V6 Engine: 60,000 Mile belt change interval.
Timing Chain, 2.4L I4 Engine: No recommended service interval.
Replacement is advised after 100K miles if the chain (or related
components are noisy or the cylinder head needs to be removed for any
reason.
