My parents own a 95 4x4 Sr5 V6 Automatic 4-Runner. It is completly stock no
adjustments done to it expect changing oil, new air filter and checking the
fuilds and that is mostly it. It has 20K miles on it and seems like it runs
good. The other day the Check Engine light came on. Thinking nothing of it,
ingored it and it went off. The next day I was driving to work and it came
on. No Blinks, just comes on and stays on. It was time to fill up with some
gas. After filling it up and driving off, the light went away. But after 20
milles it came on again. This is starting to annoy me. Now the light won't go
off. I turn the car off for the night and start it up and the light is still
on. I haven't seemed to lost any power and I seem to still get my somewhat
good gas mileage. But I not sure what is causing this. I have talked to a
buddy of mine and he heard that some 4-Runners have problems with clogged
fuel lines. That seems like an answer but I don't know and haven't started to
take a part the car to find out. Hopefully I am not the only one with this
problem and someone can give me some good helpful advice.

Thanks for your input. When I got the truck home, I looked at the engine
from the bottom (passenger side) and noticed a couple of electrical
connectors that weren't connected to anything! I put one of them in the only
place it would fit (a square blue connector on the underside of the EFI
intake), but that left two connectors to go. I also noticed a sensor (knock
sensor??) on the block above the oil pressure sending unit that had no wire
attached to it. Only problem is that both of the two connectors left will
fit on it (they are both round, with one wire in the center). One of the
wires has a GREEN connector with a shielded (white?) wire, and the other
wire is green with a WHITE connector. Does anybody know which of these wires
is the right one to connect to that sensor?? I can't find any info in the
'89 Toy manuals I have.
By the way, I haven't checked the codes with the engine off and test
connector shorted. The codes showed up while the engine was running, driving
down the road.
In order to not shock the hell out of myself on the starter, I disconnected
the battery before reaching my arm up in there to connect the connectors.
After connecting the blue one, and re-attaching the battery, the check
engine light only flashes one code with engine running - 11 blinks. From
what you guys have told me, that should be the throttle position sensor,
which is connected and looks like it has never been touched. So what about
the other sensor on the block that is still not connected? Hmmm.....Puzzling!

It is a 22R EFI with auto transmission. I was driving when this horrendous
noise came from underneath. The vehicle
lost its forward momentum. I put the auto transmission onto neutral because
there was no response from the accellerator pedal except for more very loud
noise. I exited the hiway and stopped the vehicle and put the trans. onto
park.
with the engine still running opened the hood to look for the source of the
noise. At this time though the noise was getting Very Loud.
Fearing Major Engine damage I shut her off and had her towed home.
Any suggestions?

I'm thinking about buying a 92 model toyota 4x4 with the 3.0 ltr v6.
I don't know very much about the Toyota trucks except that they are supposed
to run forever. If anyone would be so kind as to e-mail me some information
on this particular year (or similar) I would greatly appreciate it. I am
curious about a rumor of trouble with the v6's head gasket blowing. And i
was wondering if it uses a timing belt or a timing chain (if it uses a belt
is it really as involved as they claim to change one or can a advanced shade
tree mech do it?).

To: check your water pump. sometimes they have a weep hole when the seal on the
shaft goes bad. i don't know about the type of pump on your engine but it's
a possibility. usually it won't weep unless its running, then by the time
you get down to look for it its dried with the engine heat. goodluck

Check the weep hole on the bottom side of the water pump. The seal is
probably leaking. Look on the front of the timing cover, near the timing
marks for a puddle of coolant as well. The water pump is a snap to
replace. Requires only simple hand tools.

Hello all,
The motor I'm currently finishing building for my truck ('84 4X4 XtraCab)
is a combo of an '85 bottom end and an '84 top end. While I have been
able to solve all the other little problems arising from differences, I
now have one that has me a little confused. The oil pressure sender from
my 84 block has too small a thread size to thread into the port in the '85
block. I picked up an '85 sender yesterday but it is the same size as
the one which I pulled out of the 84. So, my question is, what is the
deal here? Did the parts store give me the wrong sender or do I have an
odd block? The sender is just behind the oil filter on my 84 block, and
I'm assuming the port is in the same place on the newer block. It seems
to require almost twice as large a sender thread size. Anyway, if you
know of a year which used a larger sender size, throw me a line. The
motor's just about ready to go in and this is the last little item.

Toyota made the engine change in 8/84, so, if the parts store guy didn't
ask you what month/year engine you had from the desciption of your problem
I'd guess that he gave you the post 8/84 part which would be the same
as the 85 part.

Ok I have the open diff setup, but when I popped the clutch in second today
I left two skid marks.
How did this occur??
Also, when my tires get hot and I pop 2nd it seems as though my front right
tire just about lifts off the ground.
Galen have you or anyone else noticed this??

You had a similar load on both tires so they both spin but if you had a
little more weight on one tire than the other, the one with less will
break loose first. Try this simple test put some dish soap and water on
one rear tire and leave the other dry. Point the truck up hill in 2WD and
hit the gas the tire with the least traction (with the soap) will spin (a
lot) with the locker you will not have any spin both tires will turn at

All cars and trucks with in line engines do this. It is a law of physics
(sp?) for every action there is a reaction. You are seeing the reaction of
the power produced by the engine, Watch a funny cars some time they can

You may want to consider a Detroit soft locker there is no
click-click-click as you make a turn, and have a smother over all
operation.
