Hey Folks, if you've never done any letter writing; now is the time! The east coast of the USA has very few designated OHV areas and it is vital that keep what little we have open.

The Daniel Boone is a beautiful National Forest with some great OHV trails. Let's not sit around the campfire and talk about what great trails existed in the D. Boone when they had OHV trails; let's sit around the campfire and talk about the the great trails that we have in D. Boone and how we beat the Greenies on this one.

OBTW: The Greenies are leading the fight to shut the D. Boone down, so let's get the letter writing going. Avoid typed form letters signed by members of your club, these count as one (1) letter. Have your club write a short paragraph or two and mail it in. Let's Keep the D. Boone Open!

The Stanton Ranger District on the Daniel Boone
National Forest is proposing a "watershed improvement"
in the Leather Fork stream corridor. There is an old
road up Leather Fork creek that has some stream
crossings and used to be a county road, but is
no longer on the county transportation system. The
Forest Service recently acquired the private
"inholdings" to this land, so the road is "no
longer needed" for access to private lands. As
part of this project "at no surprise" The forest
service proposes to close the old road to motorized
use, but "of course" maintain the road for NON-motorized
use. Signs, boulders, and guard rails will be installed
to make sure you can't use your public land, according
to the proposal by the Forest Supervisor's order. This
way an Environmental Impact Study will not have to be done.
This scoping letter has been sent out to provide us
with the opportunity to review and comment on the proposal
in order to assist the forest service in the final decision
of the project that will be made by the end of December 1996.

This is a legitimate road and needs to be saved.
If it can be maintained for "non-motorized" use it
should be easily maintained as a motorized road
since it has been for many years. Thanks for the Help.
