Death Valley Closures Update 3/96

Source: Off-Road.com

Per a letter I have from Death Valley National Park Superintendent Mr. Richard H. Martin, the following roads are open (as opposed to my earlier posting on The 4x4 Web Page):

  • South Park/Pleasant Canyon Loop

  • Hole in the Wall Canyon

  • Tucki Mine

  • Schwaub Townsite

  • Ibex Springs

(My review of the Desert Protection Act maps indicated that these roads would be closed -- and this was verified by DVNP Resource Management staff personnel in March 1995. So we can assume one of two options: 1) these roads will in fact be closed, but later on; or 2) something has changed with the boundaries of the wilderness area and these roads will be left open. I hope it's the second alternative).

The following roads, according to Mr. Martin, will in fact be closed forever:

  • Greenwater Canyon (possible RS 2477 action here)

  • Confidence Wash

  • Lemoign Canyon

  • Marble Canyon

  • Jail Canyon

  • Skidoo (some of the area)

  • Hall Canyon

  • Buckwheat Wash

  • Saddle Peak Hills

  • Quail Springs

Respectfully submitted, Del Albright, jeepndel.
