The OFFROAD Mailing List

Source: Off-Road.com
NEW! - Offroad Stickers, hats, and t-shirts available!

Purpose: To discuss and share experiences about 4X4 and backroads adventures, driving tips, vehicle modifications and anything else related to four wheeling. This list is specifically designed for owners, users, or enthusiasts of four wheel drive vehicles. Discussions center around technical and mechanical matters, driving techniques, and trip reports.

The offroad mailing list is unmoderated. Your postings are sent directly to the subscribers without intervention by the administrator. Please keep your postings in good taste and within the list's subject area. The views expressed in offroad are those of the individual authors only. Do not post copyrighted material without permission of the author(s).

Vendors and manufacturers are free to join into discussions as long as they do not turn it into advertising, keep the claims accurate, do not bash the competition, and give relevant technical information on the various subjects. Personal advertising of a non-commercial nature for offroad related items is allowed. Claims made in such ads are unverified and buyer assumes risk.

For Administrative matters (sign up, unsubscribe, mail problems, switch between realtime/digest modes, etc), mail to offroad-request@off-road.com. Administrative requests posted to the list instead of sent to the adminstrator may be ignored.

This list is available as a REALTIME option or as a DIGEST option [default]. For subscribers to the REALTIME option, each poster's message is immediately forwarded to the subscribers. For subscribers to the DIGEST option, messages are collected during the day and sent as one message to subscribers at 04:00 and 18:00 USA Eastern time each day. Subscribers may subscribe to the realtime option, the digest option, or both. New subscribers must initially start with the digest option. At some large sites, the offroad mailing list is also available as a local newsgroup fed by this mailing list.

If you have not posted your bio, please post it. Please ask the administrator for the suggested format for the bio.

If you will be leaving your school/company or otherwise lose your account, tell the administrator to unsubscribe you!

If you are going away temporarily and do not want your mail box to overflow in your absence, ask the administrator to unsubscribe you. Be sure to mention that you are going on "vacation." When you return, send mail to be "resubscribed."

In your posts to the list, please put your INTERNET return address in your signature so people can reply to you personally if they want. With today's distributed architectures and client-server setups, the "From: " line is frequently inaccurate.

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) list is available through the offroad server. It contains extensive articles about all facets of 4 wheeling. More articles are needed. Volunteers to write specific sections are encouraged. Please coordinate through the administrator.

OFFROAD SERVER INFO:
The offroad server (offroad-server@off-road.com) allows you to request information about the list. You can get a directory and index of digest back issues, the back issues, the bibliography, the montly posting, subscribers' bios and the FAQ. The server operates automatically without intervention by the administrator. The server is for information only; you cannot use it to change your subscription. To get help, mail to offroad-server@off-road.com and put the word "help" on a line by itself in the body of the message. The subject line is ignored.

I have written up how I run the offroad mailing list. If you wish to know how to setup and run a mailing list of your own, ask me for the instructions.

Suggestions for other topics to include in the monthly posting are welcome.
