Off-Road.Com's official position on the environment:

Source: Off-Road.com

Off-Road.Com supports all environmentally responsible off-road recreational activities including motorized and non-motorized activities.

Collectively we are a group of people who seek to experience the beauty and majesty of the backcountry and enjoy the clean air, clean water and clean earth. Continuing to be able to do this requires preservation and understanding of the environment.

RESPONSIBLE OFF-ROAD RECREATION

We encourage all off-roaders to support responsible environmental and conservation efforts in their local area and while on the trail. We also encourage all off-roaders to report irresponsible and illegal activities to the authorities. Working together we can protect our backcountry from those who choose to abuse it and those who would use that abuse by a few to prevent anybody from being able to enjoy these magnificent areas.

REASONABLE ACCESS

Off-Road.Com believes that responsible off-roading does not cause considerably more irreparable harm to non-sensitive areas than any other human activity does. As such, we believe that there should be provisions allowing for both continued, and the expansion of, reasonable access to non-sensitive areas by people enjoying responsible and safe motorized off-road activities.

We believe that select sensitive wilderness areas should be preserved in their natural and pristine state and those areas be allowed to exist without any human interference (motorized or otherwise). We also believe that by keeping as many well-defined trail areas open as possible, and providing for the needs of legitimate off-road recreation, that illegal and possibly destructive access will be reduced.

Off-Road.Com does not support the wholesale elimination of access to vast areas of public lands without local involvement or without consideration for the needs of all affected parties.

PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS

For most people with physical limitations, the disabled and the elderly and for many families with young children, motorized off-road recreation provides the only way that they can access and enjoy the more remote areas in the backcountry. We believe that all people have the right to enjoy access to public lands, and to enjoy that access without regard for their ability to hike up mountains or traverse deserts and other rugged terrain by foot.

EDUCATION, POLLUTION & NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Off-Road.Com fully supports and encourages responsible environmental and conservation education.

We support the development of cleaner burning engines and alternative technologies for power sources that will minimize the air quality impacts of motorized vehicles and we support the development of all technologies that provide for operation of powered vehicles with less environmental impact.

Off-Road.Com supports the use actual of tail-pipe emission based vehicle emission regulation as opposed to bureaucratic based red tape regulations that make little sense.

ECO-TERRORISM

While Off-Road.Com supports responsible conservation and true environmentalism, Off-Road.Com deplores the actions of radical organizations that espouse eco-terrorism and activities which are likely to cause people who are engaged in legal and responsible activities serious injury or even death, or which prevent people from exercising their freedom to participate in legitimate and fully legal activities.

We encourage anybody who wishes to support any sort of environmental organization to do very careful research and make sure that the activities that the organization in question supports are both legal and are compatible with your personal views. Don't be guilty of sending in a check that ultimately could contribute to someone's death or injury just because the person that asks for it tells you they want to save the environment.

There are fully legal methods by which any environmental or other organization can affect a change in the laws. Even though our beliefs may contradict theirs we fully support the rights of any law abiding organization or person to use the system to make changes in the law.

The final word is that we all need to take care of the great outdoors so we can all enjoy it. We urge everybody to get involved with their local club or off-road organization and participate in the environmental activities such as backwoods clean ups that they sponsor.
