Are you sure its not Goodyear Wrangler M/T? instead of R/T?
its the M/Ts that come on the Hummers.
We've been running Goodyear Wrangler M/T's in 31x11.5 on Jenn's Jeep for
over a year now. I'm not pleased with how they're wearing...but
definitely good on and off road traction.
we ordered them through the Tire Rack http://www.tirerack.com

I am also going to be designing some sort of K&N Filter Charger
Kit/Removable Snorkel combo. I am going to build a removable box for a the
K&N open Air Filter then attach it and run a pipe up through a closeable
hole in the hood. Basically on the road it would be completely open and off
road it would have a snorkel with slightly better performance than stock. I
am going to relocate the filter to the back of the engine compartment near
the master cylinder. Any Ideas/Comments/Advice would be greatly
 appreciated.

So all you have to do is turn up your bars in the front and add a leaf
in the rear and you can get a 2 inch lift out of
this? but will it hold and not sag in acouple of yrs? and what size
tires can you run if you do mudding and novice off-roading? 32x11.50's
? what about the coils and shocks should they be replaced and what
 size and kind?
any info on this would be helpful because i would seriously consider
doing this if its cheap and possible.

I've only heard bad things about Goodyear M/Ts from people but every
time a magazine reviews them, they always seem to get good reviews. What
gives? Anyone else tried the Goodyear M/Ts? I'm going to be getting some
new tyres in the not too distant future and am debating whether to get
BFGs or try the new and improved Bridgestones M/Ts. I've been extremely
happy with my "old" thread-design Bridgestones. I'm also looking into
the Silverstones, if I can get them. I'll just throw the Goodyears in
 there as another choice.

With this talk of autos lately, I was wondering if anyone out there has
opted to install an auto in their toy over a marlin. Seems to me with
nice low gears such as 5:29s and an auto tranny you could really be a
 crawlin machine.
Would this be a 'more expensive than worth it type of mod' or what?
 Just curious.

article on mud tires and even a "all terrain vs. mud terrain" article.
I hear lots of folks asking whats best, so its cool to see what they

Water injection does not increase boost, it cools the intake
charge, allowing more boost/ignition advance before
pinging(read:detonation).Don't use an EFI pump(they're located in the
tank),use a washer pump,or just spend the coin on the kit.
I messed around with water injection on my 440 Mopar. It did make a
 difference,allowing about 5-6 degrees more advance,but with almost 13:1
compression,it wasn't enough to be able to run that advance all the
time.I used it only for racing, and just cranked the timing back for the
 street.
If you don't race your 'Runner, you don't really need it.
 Darren
Actually I talked to a fellow who has a shop that installs the water injection on supercharged miatas and he said that they actually got increased boost because the water helps seal the rotors better to the supercharger housing. Yes, you're right, it DOES cool the intake charge; that's why I am installing it, but I thought that the increased boost was a "neat" fringe benefit. The reason why I asked about the EFI pump is that I have the spearco kit, but the little washer
pump it comes with does not atomize the water but lets it dribble out of the nozzle. The Aquamist kit ($380) comes with a 100psi pump and a nozzle that's actually .1mm larger than the spearco small nozzle. So I was going to run an old eclipse fuel pump, capable of at least 80 psi, controlled by an adjustable pressure sensitive switch. My concern regarding the fuel pump was whether it would corrode internally from the water going through it and whether it would have a
cooling problem because it was not flowing enough coolant (water) through it.
On another note does anyone know a shop in Texas (preferably Dallas) that has a 4wd chassis dyno?

Scott, he is right - they are the R/T.
A friend purchased about 20 of them a year or so ago. They were military
surplus and they did come off of hummers. Before they went to the 37" tire on
 the Hummers, they ran these - 35x12.5 R 16.5
They are absolutely the roughest and hardest mud tire I have ever had the

I was under the impression they had been discontinued. Occasionally you will

I'd generally agree with this. The 22R-TE is a 7.3:1 engine, and when
coupled with the factory's 6 or so pounds of boost, it lacks a bit in the
low end. I'd be curious to know the actual CR of such a swap, though. The
22RE is a 9.3:1 setup in stock form, but the 22R-TE's head has a more
open combustion chamber, so that might conceivably lower the CR to
something like 9.0:1...(I'm just guessing here). With 6 pounds of boost
and 92 octane gas, that's probably OK, but I wouldn't want to see it try
to climb a hill with 87 octane crud. Does anyone else have an opinion on
this? I think it would work in an ideal setup, but I think it opens the
door to some nastiness if things go even a little awry.
 Jeff
I had an '85 Xtra cab with a 5" lift and 33" tires some years ago. My truck
had the stock 4.10s and a 22RE motor, but it had an HKS aftermarket Turbo
installed by the previous owner. The CR was never changed and although I
never had a guage on it (stupidity), HKS claimed that the turbo was pushing
about 8 psi. THIS TRUCK SCREAMED!!!!! I even had the opportunity to outrun
the law up a hill (I was young, now I am the law). I was able to "catch and
burn" 2nd gear to the point of mucho smoke with the 33"s!! The only problem
that I ever had was not due to the motor, but early turbos had a problem
with cooling and lubrcation, or rather, the lack of. I ultimately took it
off 'cuz HKS wouldn't send me anymore free turbos (to cheap to pay). I say
go for it with the heads. I also know that HKS (some time ago) sells
intercoolers for that truck (a must).
Keep in mind, turbos like a load. I mean, you will feel the most
"assistance" from a turbo in the gears from 2-4 (not 5th, it's an
overdrive). This also means that it may not do much for you on the trail.
In fact, when it does "kick in", it may cause a loss of traction.
Good luck. If I can be of anymore help, let me know.

As I was saying earlier, we've run the 31x11.5 Goodyear M/Ts on the TJ
for over a year now. We put plenty of miles on it sense then. Its been
to Pismo a couple times, Colorado once, Tahoe once, and now LA once.
Its also a daily driver, when Jim Brink isn't holding it hostage (sorry,
 private joke :-).
I've been pleased with on and off-road traction, but tread life is
PATHETIC. The tires cupped terribly, and Jim thinks a belt may have
even lifted. By the time we got back from our CO trip last year the
front two tires had cupped terribly. I don't see us every paying for
 another set.
I'm very pleased with my Bridgestone MTs though...I'm even on my seconds
 set.

when loaded with gear. Honestly, I couldn't tell any diiference in the
ride. The kit came with Doestch Tech shocks and a stainless steel brake line.

I stuck a cutting torch between the frame and the body ( 4Runner and cut
the 3( or 4) bolt heads off and removed the chain crank assembly. I
literally beat it up with a hammer to knock the rust off of it. I pulled
off the c clipa nd drove the pin out of the middle of it. I wire brushed
and cleaned it all up and reassembled it with never seize. I was able to
get the torched off bolt ends out and just used new hardware. It works
well, but I may replace the chain before long. It is pretty rusty and
I'd hate to lose that tire at highway speeds.

What model and year truck do you have? If you have coils, you don't have leaf
springs. If you have IFS, you can turn up the torsion bars for about a 1 -
1.5" lift up front. Then you could add a leaf or re-arch the rear springs (if
you have leaf springs) or get new, longer coil springs (if you have coil
springs in the rear). This combination will give you about a 1 - 2" overall
lift. It's pretty cheap ($160 for coils) and not too hard to do by yourself.
You will at least need new shocks in the rear though for the added height and
 articulation.

The gasket replacement is free from Toyota. There are a few other things you
should consider while it's in for the service though....timing belt, water
 pump, seals, etc.

 Xander,
 E-mail this fellow: hbrimmer@ix.netcom.com
He has access to Gregory's Manuals of Australia. I have personally seen
the manual that covers Hilux trucks with the 4Y engine and I can say it
 is quite comprehensive.
 Good luck.
