General Overview Baja bugs, dune buggies, sand rails or race cars, Jeff Hibbard's book, "Baja Bugs & Buggies" is undoubtedly "The Bible" for building VW based off-road vehicles. A long time desert racer, Hibbard has "been there", and "done that", condensing a lifetimes worth of wxperience into an easily readable, highly informative work that will answer many of your questions, and set you thinking in new directions. While this book was written and then updated several years ago, nearly all of the information is still very relavent. Broken down into sections, the tome covers chassis building and preperation, engine and body mods, installing "Baja bug" kits, shock absorbers / springing, King-link vs. Ball joint front suspensions and a whole lot more. Questions about chassis set-up? Answered. Questions about "desert proofing" your engine? Answered. Hibbard even goes into driving tips for the desert! In any motorsport, safety is a major concern, and BB&B covers the subject in detail. Restraint systems, proper mounting and construction of roll cages, gasoliene safety and fire supression are gone over in detail, emphasizing their importance at every opportunity. Highlights
The Verdict - "Must have". For the off-road bound VW owner, there is no book finer. On par with Muir's "Idiot Manual", Hibbard's knowledge & advice are second to none, While updated information exists on several topics throughout the book, it remains an invaluble rescource for the neophyte and veteran V-dubber alike.
