Congratulations LYCOS!

Lycos removes support for Envirolink Official, 8/15/98
Radical Animal Rights Entities Threaten Legal Action!

Censorship:: Off-Road.com does not practice censorship. From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) (web1913).

censorship n 1: counterintelligence achieved by banning or deleting any information of value to the enemy [syn: {censoring}, {security review}] 2: deleting parts of publications or correspondence or theatrical performances [syn: {censoring}]

Off-Road.com presented the content of Envirolink's server to the management of Lycos, and CMG Information Systems with cc to Mr. Josh Knauer, the President of Envirolink on July 10th, 1998.

Loss of free services to sensible Environmental Groups: There are numerous, non-profit and, "for profit" hosting services which offer free services to sensible causes. The largest is the Association for Progressive Communications. Certainly, the more generic free services abound at such sites as GEOCITIES and TRIPOD.

FYI, the charter for the NC-Alerts mailing lists is as follows.

Welcome to NC-Alerts, the e-mail alert service operated by the volunteer
staff of NO COMPROMISE: The Militant, Direct Action Magazine of Grassroots
Animal Liberationists & Their Supporters.
This list will NOT be used for discussion, organizing, debate or argument.
Instead it will be used as a complement to existing lists which specialize
in these areas. The purpose of NC-Alerts is to provide subscribers with up
to date action alerts, with info on such things as the jailing of AR
activists and what can be done to help support them. For more detailed
information check out the No Compromise website at:
http://www.envirolink.org/orgs/nocompromise/

Subject: NC : Envirolink Action Alert!
Forward from the administrator of Animal Rights Resource Site:
Due to a recent article published on the web,
http://www.off-road.com/media/lycos.html,
Lycos has decided to drop its corporate sponsorship of Envirolink.
What does this mean?
Basically, Envirolink has funds for two months of operation. This will
mean no more hosting of Animal Rights organizations, both national
and grassroots (including No Compromise, the ALF Info Site and others),
as well as e-mail lists.
Individual donations would be helpful, but that is not what this is
about.
We are forming a network to support Envirolink. Envirolink needs:
1) Legal help and funding for a libel suit against OFF-ROAD.COM.
2) A letter writing campaign to Lycos, http://www.lycos.com/,
asking them to reconsider their support for Envirolink. In return,
individuals may promise to use the Lycos search engine over others
as well as possible support of Lycos' sponsors.
3) Seek new corporate sponsorship of Envirolink should Lycos not
4) Support of Envirolink sponsors. This is a long range project and
not as urgent as the others.
Please begin considering how to help in this effort and whether
you wish to lend support.
Also, write envirolink a short note, supporting them and thanking
them for hosting all the wonderful sites.

Subject: Frontline: Off-road.com and Lycos Support Internet Censorship
The following post was recived anonymously, we urge all of our
readers to write Lycocos a letter today:
Off-road.com and Lycos Support Internet Cencorship
10 short days after Off-Road.com published a scathing slanderous attack
on the server Envirolink.org and several of its hosted environmental
and animal rights web sites, Lycos decided to drop its corporate
sponsorship of Envirolink.
The issue is NOT whether you care about the environment or animal
rights but about Internet cencorship and and free expression on the
Internet. What is next to be attacked?
Speak out for free speech on the Internet while you can, or it may be
gone one day.
For more information on this check out the Friends of Envirolink site

Message-id: <19980212003300.TAA25015@ladder03.news.aol.com>> You cannot even tell if these organizations are run by criminals.> You let our children be propagandized by felons and you have no idea.
Which organizations are you speaking of? EnviroLink hosts hundreds
of non-profit organizations, and we don't care whether the people
that run them have criminal records or not. EnviroLink is similar
to a library, we do not judge or have any control over the authors of
information that non-profit organization's put up on the web. Whether
or not their info is true, false, or written by felons, this is the
United States of America, and the last time
I checked EVERYONE here has the right to express their opinions.
I checked EVERYONE here has the right to express their opinions.
If you now have a problem with the US Constitution, I encourage you
to join your local militia and do something about it. I personally
love our Constitution and will ardently defend the rights guaranteed
in it while I still have a few breaths in my body.
