WARN Industries 95Ti Winch

It finally happens. In spite of the finest suspension, the ultimate drive train and a sticky set of sure-footed tires, you're stuck.

Jammed within the rock garden is the perfect day Jeeping. That trusty shovel won't do a bit of good. About the only way out, you're thinking, is a jackhammer and a chain gang - unless you've got a winch.

Do you have what it takes to pull your day from peril? Got a winch?

There's only so much a shovel and a Hi-Lift jack can do for you. When those tools have reached their limits, it's time to call in the WARN Industries 95Ti. Every four wheeler knows of WARN's reputation, reliability when you need it most. The 95Ti is WARN's way of saying, a good reputation is good, but the pursuit of excellence is what we're about.

WARN has accomplished this pursuit in its 95Ti by building it around the prowess and effeciency of the new Generation II Bosch series wound motor, which takes charge in its contention for the fastest winch in the industry.

Reeling in 62-feet per minute at no load and roughly 12-feet a minute with the weight of my Jeep Wrangler TJ (approximately 4,000 pounds) at its end, the 95Ti uses a three gear planetary drive system to achieve its claims of performance and reliability.

Inside the winch, the addition of a thermometric sensor provides the user with vital temperature information, preventing one of the most common culprits of winch failure, overheating.

The winch packs 125 feet of hope. Equipped with 125 feet of 5/16 diameter aircraft-quality cable, the fully seeled aluminum die-cast case comes with a roller fairlead and and sleek new look.

BEFORE YOU INSTALL
  • Mounting plate ( I went with Warn's version for a Jeep TJ)
  • at least a 650 CCA (cold cranking amp) car battery
  • Simple hand tools (ratchet, socket set, allen wrenches)
  • No drilling required to install if you get a mounting plate from Warn, otherwise, I can't assure you that there won't be some holes needed here and there.
THE INSTALL
The install of the WARN winch is about the easiest and most effective efforts to add to the ability of your Jeep. You begin by bolting the roller fairlead first to the mounting plate. Then, place the nut inserts into the slots on the bottom of the winch as seen in the photos below. As you may be able to see, the nut inserts bolt to the mounting plate rather than the winch, meaning if you were to strip them, it wouldn't pose a serious setback to your operation.
The Roller fairlead must be mounted to the mounting plate prior to installing the winch onto your rig. To save you time and grief, it's always a novel idea to read the instructions before you attempt to install anything onto your rig, the instructions of the WARN 95Ti are very clear.

Now, you can bolt the winch to the mounting plate with the four supplied bolts. For TJ owners, take off the shroud that covers your front sway bar. It attaches at four points on the frame with two bolts per side. They're easily found and removed and the cover pulls right off, exposing the sway bar.

Now, it's time to coerce a buddy into assistance. A six pack will usually do. Hoist the winch and plate assembly into position on your Jeep. You'll need torx head tools to bolt the supplied bolts into the factory frame bumper.

The fit was very tight on my rig, but it wasn't in error. The tolerances add to the rigidity of the entire operation, as any metal under stress is actually forms a stronger bond. Adding to this is the fact that the mount also enlists the two sway bar mounts for added strenght, bringing the points of attachment to six total.

At this stage, you may have noticed that you don't have to drill anything. Let's continue. It's time to give the big guy some juice.

WARN offers prefabricated battery terminals attachments for this. The only thing you need to do is run the wires to the battery and bolt them in place. The only thing you need to concern yourself with here is the routing the wires. You'll want ensure that the wires avoid heat sources and moving objects, such as the fan. This is an easy task for virtually any short wheel base Jeep.

The entire install took no more than an hour and a half before we were ready to hit the trail.

The Warn mount attaches at the bumper mount holes and once again at the sway mount for extra strength!
Don't Forget to add some of the provided washers under this bolt. This prevents vibrations that could cause the mounting plate to loosen over time.
Pre Fabricated battery lead attachments make the install nice and easy!
APPEALING FEATURES
All installed and ready to hit the trail, the WARN's new styling compliments the rounded look of newer 4x4s. The Jeep Wrangler TJ is certainly no exception.

The remote switch is equipped with an LED light. This is a cruicial component to the longevity of the winch. This LED blinks when the cool running WARN 95Ti is reaching high temperatures, alerting the user that it is time to take a break.

TRAIL TEST
Out on the trail I noticed this winch was FAST under any load we tossed at it. WARN's 62-foot per minute, no-load rating is actually slightly better than WARN states it is. To test the new winch, we went out to an area we had always wanted to tackle, a huge, dry waterfall with several steep and nasty sections. In the photos below, we're talking about four feet of vertical drop. In other areas we traversed, we're talking seven feet of vert over slick rock. We felt this was an excellent test.

So we get out there and drive up to the face of the steep waterfall section. There was a nice tree to rig off of near by, which made this the perfect test area. We pulled the cable out, properly rigged it up with a tree strap and set up to pull the jeep up the face. I plugged in the remote and took it to the driver's seat with me. I pulled the slack up out of the line slowly and then began the pull.

The section we attempted was too technical to drive up at the rougher spots, which is why the winch was the answer to conquerring the hill. The WARN 95Ti pulled the TJ straight up the face of the entire waterfall without any hesitations. With the length and rough climb of this hill, our hopes we to take the winch to the limit of its peak operating temperature, but the LED alert never flinched, and the winch pulled the Jeep straight to the top in 85-degree weather.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
The jeep handles a little differently with that much weight on the front now, but its not anything bad, just different. I've heard that over time the added weight might sag the front springs to where I would have to install some 1? spacers in the front to level things out. But, it hasn't yet, so I don't really have anything to complain about on that front either. The perfect winch? It might just be as close as any winch company has gotten thus far. You might just have to pick one up for yourself and see.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Yet again, WARN has gone beyond the call of duty, going the distance, setting the WARN name apart from the competition. Quality components and effective features in increasing the reliabilty and performance of your recovery needs.
