Smittybilt GEAR and Neoprene Seat Covers

The driver seat cloth on our Jeep Rubicon Unlimited has seen better days.

We had two nagging issues with our Jeep Rubicon Unlimited. One was the need to add some storage areas that we could tote our off-road essentials in without sacrificing too much space. Our center consol was full, and the rear cargo storage compartment was overflowing.

Our second problem was that our front driver seat bolster is completely ripped open due to the daily hop up into the Jeep. This is a common problem on Jeeps that have been lifted, and the seat material in this area rarely lasts for more than 70,000 miles. Smittybilt came to our rescue and solved both of these common Jeep problems.

We couldn’t live without our GEAR TailGate cover and storage bags now that we’ve had a chance to use them regularly.

Smittybilt GEAR products solve organizing problems with a neatly laid-out storage bag system. We noticed how unorganized we were on our last trip to Easter Jeep Safari and wished we would have had the GEAR Tail Gate Cover in Moab. Each 600 Denier Polyester pouch is interchangeable on its mounting surface and hold more gear than we had anticipated. Our portable CB, winch controller, tire inflation tools and deflators, as well as miscellaneous hand tools, are all nicely organized in one pouch. Our larger pouch now doubles as a camera bag, and there’s still room for us to fit other goodies inside.  Just unsnap and pull the bag off of the mount and you’ve got portable bags with handles and straps. We couldn’t live without our GEAR TailGate Cover now, and it won’t be long until we get Smittybilt’s Overhead Console as well to compliment the tailgate cover.

Smittybilt solved our organizing problems, but now it was time to hide the unsightly torn seat bolster in our JK. Replacing the seats with aftermarket units was a consideration; however, it was an expensive option and we actually like the feel of our factory seats.  Smittybilt offers its 100 percent neoprene seat covers for the Jeep JK, and they looked like just the ticket to spruce up our Jeep’s interior and to cure our ailing seat material.

The Smittybilt Seat Covers look almost like factory gear and fit great!

We chose to match our Greystone Jeep with gray and black seat covers. The covers look great and install easily. Just stretch them over the seats, tuck them in where needed and pull the straps tight to get a totally custom look. We installed them in less than an hour and were very pleased with the way they look, feel and fit. We did run into one issue, however. During installation, we did pull one of the straps too hard and tore it right off of the seat cover.  These straps are sewn on to the very edges of the covers, so careful attention is needed when tightening.

Since installing the Smittybilt seat covers, we have had the top off of the Jeep while pouring rain soaked the interior. Neoprene is a material that Jeep should consider when designing convertible vehicles.  It really is the perfect material to repel wet weather and harsh climates (it’s the material most often used for diving and surfing wetsuits). The seats dried quickly, still look like new and don’t send off a foul odor like most cloth seat materials do after getting wet.

We were happy to see the back covers fit as good as the fronts.

Our GEAR Tail Gate Cover and storage bags are some of our favorite additions to our Jeep. We still can’t believe how much “stuff” we have packed into the storage bag. The Smittybilt Neoprene seat covers turned out to be a huge save, as we were losing more and more seat padding in the bolster every time we jumped into the seat.  The front and back seats look great, are comfortable and we feel no need to replace them any longer.
