Project ZJ

Welcome to Grand Cherokee UnLimited?s "Project ZJ", a 10-stage buildup of my ?93 Grand Cherokee. By presenting "Project ZJ" in a multiple-stage buildup, Grand Cherokee owners will be able to get a good idea of how to build their own vehicle. Every other month, a new stage will be featured in Grand Cherokee UnLimited. I have created "Project ZJ" in a manner that will allow you to create a more capable off-road vehicle out of your Grand Cherokee. By covering the buildup of my ZJ in 10 stages, you can choose the level you want to take your Jeep to. For instance, Stage 2 will create a vehicle that increases your Grand Cherokee?s off-road abilities without going broke and by Stage 10 you?ll have a well-built ZJ ready to handle some of the toughest trails around.

While I may have left out some modifications that would improve your ZJ?s capabilities, I feel confident that my plan will create a Grand Cherokee to suit any owner. Whether you just want to add some armor to protect your ZJ during the occasional expedition off-road, or you finally want some respect from the people out there who think that the real Jeeps were discontinued when square headlights were introduced to the Jeep lineup, "Project ZJ" will take you there. When building your own Grand Cherokee, try to be creative. Just because you?ve never seen it done before on a ZJ, doesn?t mean that it won?t work.

"Project ZJ" is a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the optional 5.2 liter V-8 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, and Quadra-Trac transfer case. The goal of "Project ZJ" is to build a 4X4 that will tackle and conquer trails never before seen by Grand Cherokee owners, yet offer a comfortable ride for long journeys. With a V-8 engine, solid axles, and a flexible coil spring suspension, the flagship Jeep vehicle is already a good trail performer right out of the box?although any 4X4 can be improved upon.
