Off-Road Racer MacCachren
Making Historic Mark at Crandon Raceway
Borg Warner Cup

CRANDON, WI -- In the long history of the Indianpolis 500 race, only three drivers have ever won the famous BorgWarner Trophy four times -- A. J. Foyt, Al Unser, Sr., and Rick Mears. While the BorgWarner Indy 500 Trophy is the most famous prize in pavement racing, the $100,000 BorgWarner Shootout Cup, presented annually at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway, is easily the most prized award in professional off-road racing circles. That award will be up for grabs again when Crandon Raceway hosts the 2001 BorgWarner World Championship Off-Road Races this coming August 31-September 2.
Positioned to make his mark in racing history, championship off-road racer Rob MacCachren, Las Vegas, NV, has already won Crandon's BorgWarner Shootout Cup twice (1999, 2000). He is the only racer to win the Cup in back-to-back seasons. "The Shootout is off-road racing's Indy and Daytona 500's all rolled into one big event," said MacCachren. "It would be a great thrill to win a third Borg Cup and also give Ford Trucks five wins in a row in the race."
The Borg Warner Cup - Two times and counting for Rob MacCachren.
The BorgWarner Shootout is the highlight of a weekend of off-road racing at Crandon during the Labor Day summer holiday. That race is scheduled for Sunday, September 2 at 3:45 P.M. The race weekend opens with the Trail Master Time Trials for the Shootout on Friday, August 31. 4x4 and 2-wheel drive race pickups must qualify to enter the event. Last year a record 27 high performance trucks took the green flag in the Shootout. Friday evening, the track presents an "Xtreme Thunderfest", featuring racing under the lights. Scheduled to perform are Godzilla, The Destroyer and Frightmare monster trucks. The evening venue also includes a motorcycle daredevil performance by "The Human Bomb" as well as TNT stock car racing, Midget races and Formula 4x4 Sport Ute racing action. On Saturday, racers in several classes will compete for 2001 World Championship titles. Racers winning at Crandon receive a World Championship ring signifying their achievement annually from the track. Saturday evening, the Vic Ferrari band takes center stage at Crandon for an 8 P.M. performance. Sunday racing includes Exxon Superflo Motor Oils Championship Off-Road Racing action, the BorgWarner Shootout and traditional GOB races. A record crowd is expected to descend on Crandon Raceway for the off-road World Championships. The track is located on U.S. Highway 8 in Crandon, WI, approximately 90 miles Northwest of Green Bay.
