The Oregon Dunes are part of the Siuslaw National Forest, managed by the USFS. They are divided into two sections: The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and The Sand Lake Recreation Area.
Sand Lake Recreation Area Sand Lake Section - Between Tillamook & Pacific City
700 acres of Open Sand and trails.
OHV Beach Access.
Open Year-round.
Note: road construction in progress, expect delays as well as "temporary" road surfaces. Riders of all experience levels will find challenges on the sand dunes north of Sand Lake Estuary. There are ecologically fragile areas within the park which are closed - be sure to consult with the rangers before riding. Riders are encouraged not to drive on established vegetation. Take special care riding over dune crests and in other limited site range places Directions:
Follow US Highway 101 to Sand Lake Road, approximately fifteen miles south of Tillamook. Turn west on Sand Lake and follow signs to Sand Lake Recreation Area.
Fees:
Sandbeach Campground - $16.00 per site, $8.00 for each additional vehicle*.
West Winds Camping/Parking area - $10.00 per license street legal vehicle, per day.
East Dunes Camping/Parking area - $10.00 per license street legal vehicle, per day.
Derrick Road Dispersed and on the sand - $5.00 a day per street legal vehicle.
On the Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, if the holiday falls on the week end or is tied to a Friday or Monday, an additional holiday entry permit is required to gain entrance to the Sand Lake Recreation Area. The holiday entry permits go on sale February 1 and are sold on a first come first serve bases at the Hebo Ranger District. Each permit cost $10.00 per license street legal vehicle. *Currently the Sandbeach campground is closed during the winter months because of flooding. West Winds, East Dunes, Derrick Road and the open sand are open for business year round.On-Site Facilities:
Restrooms (no showers), telephone, site manager, drinking water, nearby groceries. There are 101 campsites open March through September. The months of May through September, 60 of the sites are reservable and the remaining 41 sites are on a first come, first served. During March and April, all sites are on a first come, first served basis.
Camping allowed in parking areas year round.
