 | Best In The Desert's Record-Breaking Parker 425 Apr 1, 2008 By:Craig Perronne
The slogan "The Legend Lives On" was slathered across every poster, program and promotional piece associated with Best In The Desert's (BITD) Blue Water Resort & Casino's Parker 425, and it was there for a reason. First run in 1971 by NORRA, the Parker race has a rich history that almost came to an end when the race was dropped from SCORE International's 1998 season. Picked up by Whiplash Motorsports, the Parker 425 managed to continue on until Casey Folks and his BITD racing organization took over the race in 2003.

I've never been very good at goodbyes. The right words or actions always seem to escape me. Usually, I give an awkward handshake, hug or maybe a pat on the back. Sometimes I try to come up with something eloquent to say, but most of the time it never comes out right. Often I just skip the whole process, as I would rather have my own memories of that person instead of a tearful departure. And so, while it isn't one of my strong points, I should probably take the time to say goodbye now. This is my last issue of Dirt Sports.

One Man Proves the XRRA is Not All About Speed Dec 1, 2007 By:Craig Perronne
Rock crawling is one of the most strategy-intensive motorsports there is. With a plethora of chances to accumulate penalty points for running over cones, backing up, going off course and a host of other infractions, competitors must carefully plot their route and actions to avoid amassing points. The top crawlers spend a great deal of time watching others take to the course, figuring out what the best lines are for a clean run.

CORR Journeys to the Heart of Texas Dec 1, 2007 By:Craig Perronne
Everything is bigger in Texas. At least, according to every Texan you meet. Venture into one of the many touristy gift shops across the great state and proudly positioned on the wall you will find a novelty map of the United States according to Texans. On it, Texas is massive compared to the comic proportions of the rest of the 49 states, which take up a miniscule amount of space. While obviously an attempt at humor, it's not too far off from the statewide notion that the world revolves around Texas.

For years, Dean Bulloch and his trusty little Suzuki Samurai have been at the top of the Pro Modified class. While his Suzuki has always seemed hopelessly outgunned by vehicles with more than double the horsepower, the Sammy was a perfect match for Dean's cool and calculated approach to the rocks.

The summer racing season, where every series goes full-tilt, usually turns me into somewhat of a traveling zombie. Every Friday I unpack my suitcase, repack it, head to the airport, check in, get fondled by security, board the airplane, find my seat and pray I'm not sitting between two fat people.
