Project Plug N Play, Alumi Craft

September 1, 2008

At some point in any automotive project, there comes a time when the endless planning, the online research and the endless daydreaming come to a halt. Nothing gets built without putting the Coors Light-flavored BS aside and getting down to work.

Pre-Runner Dunrite

September 1, 2008

When it comes to the build-up and race prep of high-quality off-road trucks and racecars, Regie Dunlap of Oak Hills, California, just seems to be one of those go-to guys in the Off-Road Nation.

A Beautiful Lie

September 1, 2008

At times, a lie isn't always a bad thing. "When you start into a car like this, you really have to lie to yourself," says Ryan Wallace, Rubicon Express president and founder. "You want to believe they are going to be a lot faster [to build], a lot less work, and a lot less time and money than they end up being."

Eye in the Sky

September 1, 2008

During the 2004 Dakar Rally, racer Steve Myers ran into some trouble - serious trouble. Off course and out of gas, Myers was stranded in the desert with any real hope of retrieval looking very bleak. After a short time, Myers was surprised by a voice that came over the in-car speaker, saying that control center knew where he was and that help was on the way. Myers had been saved by a GPS system called IriTrack, which was required equipment by the organizers. He was grateful for rescue, and upon returning home he started thinking about the possibilities of this system in the States.

Boggio's Street Sweeper

August 1, 2008

Compared to many of the readers who peruse Dirt Sports each month, John Boggio of Upland, California, may be a relative newcomer to the Off-Road Nation, but his fire engine red 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pre-runner exhibits the class and build quality of an owner with decades, rather than a decade, of off-road experience.

For the Love of Baja

August 1, 2008

Every sport has its premier playing field - the place where legends are made. If you've accomplished a feat there, you've really done something. Surfers have Pipeline in Oahu, Hawaii. Golfers have the U.S. Open, held each year at a new mind-boggling course designed to push even the best in the world to the brink. For NASCAR, there's no question it's the Daytona 500.

DirtSportsMag.com Exclusive: Testing with the Baja 500-winning Polaris UTV Team

August 1, 2008

A test day with the Baja 500-winning Polaris RZR team yields shocking revelations.

Steele Trap

August 1, 2008

When Heidi Steele crossed the finish line to win Class 7SX at the 2008 Tecate SCORE Baja 500, she did so with the aid of a brand new piece of equipment under her Desert Assassins/Yokohama Ford Ranger. Steele's truck was sporting a brand new full-floating axle and fully braced rear end package, courtesy of Currie Enterprises, Camburg Engineering and Alloy USA. The new rear end is designed to all but eliminate the problems that Steele and her team experienced on more than one occasion over the past year (and probably cost her a class win in the 40th Anniversary Baja 1000) - bent housings and broken axles, making it a worthy investment for anyone into serious pre-running or off-road racing.

Project Plug N Play Alumi Craft Part 1

July 1, 2008

Unlike the rest of the universe, summertime 2008 for the Dirt Sports crew will not necessarily be filled with the sights of sun, sand and surf, despite the fact that our Southern California digs are just minutes from some of the finest beaches on Earth.
