Tom Whitton and grandson Brandon Dana won the SNORE 250 in Primm.

This year’s SNORE 250 was the 40th running of the event. The race took place at the state line area in Primm, Nevada, sharing the same route as the SCORE Primm 300 course that was just a few weeks ago. As one racer put it, the course was “chewed up but fast.”

As the tagline says on the G & R Racing website (www.gnrracing.com), “How fast is your grandpa?”  Well, Ron Whitton (who’s 65) and his grandson Brandon “Chas” Dana answered that question this weekend at the 40th SNORE 250 with an overall win and first place in the Unlimited Truck class.

Adam Householder raced his his truggy at the 40th SNORE 250 race.

Whitton started last off the line in the Unlimited Truck class and quickly moved up through the pack despite having trouble on lap two, but a quick fix by the crew and they were back on the track.

“Except for a header bolt coming loose and putting us down for nine minutes, we had a flawless run,” Whitton remarked. “Our Toyo tires were perfect – not one flat!”

TJ Flores and Kevin Colan had some issues with a flat and the loss of rear brakes.

For this ace, the Class 1 buggies started out front with the Unlimited Trucks charging hard behind them. The #100 vehicle of TJ Flores took the early lead on lap one but lost the position on lap three with a flat tire and a loss of rear brakes. The #124 Adam Householder “truggy” then took over the Class 1 lead and pulled in second overall behind Whitton. Flores got back up and running in the third overall position.

Rob MacCachren's steering problems limited him to a fourth-place finish in 1-2 1600.

Class 1-2 1600 was the largest class of the race with 14 entries. Aaron Hawley was first off the line in the #1624 vehicle but the #1603 of Rob MacCachren started third off the line and was closing fast and had narrowed the gap to less than a minute by Checkpoint 6.

Orlo Cox finished in second place in Class 1-2 1600.

MacCachren then took the lead on lap two, but steering problems would put him out of the lead and down to a third-place finish. Finishing in second place was Orlo Cox in his Lothringer, and Jason Coleman in car #1623 finished in 4th.

Michael Hanson wrapped up the championship in Class 10 even though there's one race remaining.

Driver Michael Hanson was excited to take the Class 10 win following victories at the Dusty Times 250 and The Mint 400. With this win, Hanson secured the Class 10 Championship going into the last race of the year in Laughlin. Second place went to the #1088 car of Jon Walker and Skip Sweed despite having shifting problems, and rounding out the top three was Rodney Colbert who completed one lap.

Dave Hendrickson earned the win in Stock Bug.

Dave Hendrickson took the top spot in the Stock Bug Class after starting near the back of the class and passing everyone for the win. “Awesome race!” is all Dave had to say when asked about his day.

The second-place car was #1111 Felipe Sanchez, who had a flawless race despite tons of blinding dust. Third place went to #1102 of Cory Vandermark, and fourth place went to #1194 Scott Sebastian and John Launer. “The only problem we had was getting hit hard by a Class 8 truck!” Sebastian said.

SNORE’s next event is The Rage at the River held in Laughlin, Nevada, which will be the 17-mile course used in old days of SCORE. In years past, the Laughlin racecourse has shrunk considerably, but some how SNORE has been able to bring back this classic format for what looks to be an exciting season ender.
