Putting the Power to the Ground
Christini AWD will unveil its radical, all-wheel-drive (AWD) Supermoto racer and a new, never-before-seen, European-bred AWD enduro racebike at the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show in New York this weekend.
Here's a sneak peak of recent shop photos of the KTM 450SX-based Supermoto as well as the new GasGas 300EC two-stroke (only a tight shot of this one - at left - is available prior to its unveiling on June 16) that will be on display throughout the weekend in the Explore Motorcycling Welcome Center at the Javits Convention Center. This will be the first public viewing for each of these models. Fans of AWD technology should head over to the Welcome Center at Noon on Friday just as doors open to the public to witness the unveiling by designer Steve Christini as he presents these two bikes to the media and takes part in a Q&A session regarding the AWD technology that is the foundation of their design. Christini’s patented mechanical All Wheel Drive system delivers power to the front wheel through a series of chains and shafts to provide unsurpassed off-road capability, traction, stability and control. The lightweight system works similarly to those found on all-wheel-drive cars. The use of one-way clutches in the front hub allows the front wheel to be driven at a slightly slower rate than the rear wheel. Power is transferred to the front wheel only when the rear wheel loses traction or the front wheel skids. The front-to-rear power ratio is adjustable and allows for fine tuning of the AWD system to suit rider preferences or conditions. The All Wheel Drive conversion kit is designed for select Honda and KTM motorcycles. GasGas and Kawasaki models are currently under development.
