It proved to be a successful formula. The new car recorded a class win in its debut race with Mojave Desert Racing (MDR), but that was only the beginning. Gailey and Towler have their sights set on a Best In The Desert class title for 2008.

The Towler-built A-arm follows the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Stupid) that Gailey and partner Gene Towler pledged allegiance to right from the start. The Fox Shox-suspended front end also sports 22 inches of travel.

The spare tire hides underneath a rear deck lid in an effort to streamline the car. The engine oil cooler is mounted underneath the tire, where it is less likely to be damaged.

Win, lose or draw, though, there's no question that this little buggy deserves to be called a Masterpiece in Metal. It's that simple.

Scott Gailey's GET Performance Class 10 VW is a stunning example of simplicity in its rawest and most beautiful form. The car eschews the exotic in favor of clean design work, simple engineering and thoughtful construction.

Partially because of his roots, but mostly in the interest of longevity and ease of maintenance, Gailey selected good old-fashioned flat-four VW power for his ride. The air-cooled 2000cc beast gives up about 35 horses to the high-strung water pumper motors in the class, but Gailey says his engine is likely to run more reliably week in and week out.

The nifty little graphic on the nose of the car is an ode to Gailey's business venture. The illustration features a bird, a horse, a dog and a cat, all of them animals that benefit from Gailey's feed supply company.
