October, 11th, 2002, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico -- In the latest acknowledgement of what may very well be the biggest single off road motor sports event to hit the Baja Peninsula, Mexican television station Televisa spent the day with Dan Brown and the rest of BIRCA staff for a rock crawling demonstration at the Baja Rocks 2003 event site in La Candelaria.

Rock Star? - Dan Brown explaining Baja Rocks 2003 to an estimated 40 million-plus viewers.
Televisa is the largest television station in all of Mexico, reaching more than 40 million viewers across the Mainland, Baja California, parts of the United States, South America and Europe. The nearly four-minute segment was broadcast during Televisa's morning news program - the Mexican version of NBC's "Today Show with Katie Couric and Matt Lauer", and included a video portion showing Dan Brown with the local reporter attempting to scale Obstacle 1 of the 12-obstacle course. Also shown was an interview with Dan giving a brief explanation of what rock crawling is all about and what the Baja Rocks 2003 event will bring to the people of La Candelaria and the economy of Cabo San Lucas. What's in it for Baja As Dan explained during his Mexican television debut, Baja Rocks 2003 will boost the local economy in various ways. First, the Rock Crawling teams and their families will fill more than 200 Cabo hotel rooms for at least 8 nights. Add to that the number of U.S. rock crawling fans that will make the trip to Cabo San Lucas to watch this historic event. You can almost count the thousands of tacos and Tecates that will be consumed by these extreme rock crawling fanatics.
Televisa reporter Aurturo Diaz gets his first taste of Rock Crawling. His take on it - "Unbelievable, fantastic."
Secondly, aside from the direct monetary influx by the teams and fans, Dan has set up a win-win situation for all involved. Unlike at some U.S. rock crawling events that don't allow teams or sponsors to make money through sales, BIRCA encourages all involved to sell T-shirts, hats, posters, etc. The "win-win" in this situation is that all memorabilia sold at Baja Rocks 2003 must be made by locally - this will help inject money into the local economy. Lastly, Dan encourages all teams to bring donations of clothes, canned goods etc. to donate to the people of La Candelaria and surrounding communities. He is also working on setting up donation drop-off points in the U.S. to make donating that much easier.
