  • 2002 Parker 400 - Intro

The nostalgia that the Parker 400 bares on an off-road racer's memories is quite impressive. Bring the race up in any race conversation and you ignite fervor for the sport's history.

The season opener became the most opportune time to jumpstart the points chase with latest weapons of off-road racing technology. Parker's green flag was unveiling of how this technology and the drivers would shape up for the ensuing season.

Because of this, the race historically drags in the off-road racers by the droves. But in recent years and when SCORE saw its reigns on the race slipping to the wayside, the entries began to slowly plummet. The sanctioning body then axed the race from its '98 schedule and moved up the Colorado River to Laughlin for bigger and better things. But, Parker remained

Arizona-based race promoter Whiplash Motorsports moved in to take hold of the Parker truck and buggy race, eintroducing motorcycles and ATVs - two groups long lost by SCORE's standards - and keeping the winter season live for the small tourist town.

While the dirt bike and quad entries were revived into wealthy numbers, the truck and buggy entries remained omewhat stagnate. But for the year 2002, things will most certainly change, and we will see a rebirth of what Parker s famous for.

Whiplash and Nevada-based race promoter SNORE will combine their efforts along with their dedicated list of entries to produce what may shape up to be one of the largest truck and buggy races of recent history come Saturday, January 26, 2002.

Pro Dirt (Class 1), Pro 10 (Class 10), Pro 12 (Class 12) and Pro 16 each voted to enter their mass of entries onto the Parker dirt. Many other independents have committed to do the same. So far, it looks like nearly all but the headlining Trophy Trucks and Pro Trucks of SCORE will show up for the event. Those two classes of vehicles will launch their season up river in Laughlin on the very same weekend.

Off-Road.com will provide results and commentary of both events as they happen. For Parker, we'll show up Friday afternoon to catch the tail end of contingency and cover the race in its entirety on Saturday, uploading results, commentary and action photos.

So, stay tuned to this page on the afternoon of January 25, when this page goes live with the action in Parker. Until then, read some more about Parker at The Pit Box, or navigate your way through the left column of this page to find out where to stay and how to get to Parker.
