Probably more so than any other type of vehicle, the single-seat buggy is the historical platform in the history of off-road racing. Drino Miller and Vic Wilson provided the genesis by flogging a single-seater of Miller's own design to victory in the 1970 Baja 1000, and a young Ivan Stewart earned his "Ironman" moniker in a single-seat car. Times change, and the trucks may have taken over, but make no mistake: the buggy has kept its place in the hearts of the Off-Road Nation. And manufacturers such as Alumi Craft are keeping alive the venerable single-seat concept started by legendary companies such as Chenowth and Funco.

Providing another 15 inches of travel out back, the trailing arm suspension system packs Hypercoil race spring-equipped Fox Racing Shox 2.0 coilover shocks and twin 2.5 Fox bypass shocks take the hit out of those square-edged whoops. Outboard on the trailing arms are ProAm Micro Stub hubs equipped with ProAm 11-inch rotors, clamped by four-piston Wilwood calipers.

An Alumi Craft-designed-and-built A-arm front suspension system utilizes Fox 2.0 air shocks equipped with Hypercoil springs to soak up the bumps. Suspension travel measures 15 inches. The hubs are ProAm Alumi Craft Super Buggy units, and a set of twin-piston ProAm calipers puts the clamp on ProAm 8-inch scalloped rotors. A Howe 2.0 Power Rack makes turning the car a one-handed affair.
Based in Santee, California, Alumi Craft began as a manufacturer of aluminum components for other off-road builders, and within no time, the company was constructing chassis of its own design for the likes of Rob MacCachren and Darren Hardesty. The good folks at Alumi Craft take pride in racing what they sell, too, as the company's president John Cooley captured the 2005 SCORE Class 10 Championship, and then narrowly lost the 2006 title to Hardesty, who was also driving an Alumi Craft-built car.
