Normally a truck builder, BK Fabworks owner Barry Karakas built his first Class 1 buggy over the course of two years, though he says actual work time was about 7 months. His truck influence is clearly noticeable on the buggy.
It's comparable to hitting a buzzer-beater three pointer. Sinking a 40-foot putt to make birdie. Warming the bench as a backup quarterback only to get called in after the starter is injured and throw the game-winning pass. It's stepping to the plate with the bases loaded and blasting one over the leftfield wall.

After talking about which direction to go, owners Andy and Clyde Birchard decided to build a beefy Class 1 as opposed to a lighter vehicle. "So far it's been working out for us being that it is heavier," Andy says of its performance so far in the desert. "It seems to handle better than a light Class 1 car. It runs real nice in the big stuff due to its size."
It's building a Class 1 buggy worthy of being called a Masterpiece in Metal on your first attempt.

The front end on the BK Fabworks Class 1 features a dual A-arm design, with suspension handled via a rare shock selection: Dirt Logic 3.0 Prototype bypass shocks with piggyback reservoirs and Dirt Logic 2.5 remote-reservoir coilovers that use Eibach springs. The front suspension offers 25 inches of wheel travel.
"It was kind of challenging," says Barry Karakas, owner of BK Fabworks, which built the car for owners Andy and Clyde Birchard. "I've been wanting to build one, and then Andy had co-rode with me for about a year then, and I had built him a pre-runner. He and his dad said they wanted to build a Class 1 car. We sat down and figured out what it was going to cost, what parts we were going to put on it, and we just kinda started with a clean sheet of paper and started building."
