UNOFFICIAL - 1634 Hours -In each of the four races since its debut at the SCORE San Felipe race earlier this season, Gary and Mark Weyhrich have driven their Stewart Raceworks Jimco to second place finishes. Today was different.

"With only 15 miles of testing before its first race at San Felipe, the car earned a second overall, and that's how it all started with the four-consecutive seconds. But today, we finally married off the "Bridesmaid" for its first overall," said Gary of their second-consecutive overall victory at the Best In The Desert Tonopah 300.

Gary started the Mark Cowan-prepped Jimco last in class, quickly gaining ground and then finally catching the front runners.

"We started last in class, made our way up, then got stuck behind Vosburg, who wouldn't let us pass for 150 miles," Gary said of the early stages of the brothers' 300-mile victory lap here in central Nevada mining country. "But, it was Mark who really turned up the heat."

Mark delivered the TSCO-backed Jimco to the finish, but insisted the race began and ultimately ended in victory because of the efforts of the car's Lead Prep "Guy," Mark Cowan of Stewarts Raceworks. "He rocks. He gives us good cars. We return with good finishes," Mark said.

Running BFGoodrich's, the two managed to end the day with only one flat and more than a four-minute lead on second. So far into the season, theyhave racked up over $25,000 in combined purse money and Pro Dirt earnings. Pro Dirt is the organization made up soley of Class 1 unlimited buggies.

The two pointed out that other than the Damen Jefferies recent overall win at the Nevada 1000 in his Ford truck, the buggies have been dominant, apparently winning every race for the past two years. Other than Jefferies, the last time we could remember a truck winning overall was the 2000 Las Vegas 200, when Kyle Taylor ponied up his Chevy Class 8 to the podium. The point here is that we're still baffled as to why a slower class of vehicles, the Trick Trucks, would start first. Something to think about.

Strobel Drives Class 10 To Second Overall

The remarkable win of the weekend was that of Class 10 driver Steve Strobel in his Dorothy Lynch Homestyle Dressing-backed Bunderson single seater, who earned a second overall and his first-ever class win.

Working his way up through the pack, he immediately diced it up with Weyrich at the 80 mile mark. He then made his move on fellow Class 10 driver Jim Dizney, in his Brawley Tractor-backed Jimco, at about race mile 160. From there the ironman simply weeded through the slower Trick Trucks with his Painters Grinding (Denver, CO) Type 1 motor mated to a "bulletproof" Mendeola 5-Speed prepped by Bill Rice.

Strobel drove some 19 hours from his hometown in Clarks, Nebraska to win his first race of his off-road racing career. The nine prior races were comprised mainly of seconds and thirds.
