Extreme Rock Crawling Nationals
The End Game Awaits Johnson Valley, California
September 19-21
by Fidel Gonzales

Prepare yourselves for Johnson Valley, the end-all rock crawling event of the Goodyear/Skyjacker Extreme Rock Crawling season. This is the event that decides the series champion. This is the event you Californians won't want to miss.

Johnson Valley is comprised of the roughest terrain and evilest obstacles of the Goodyear/Skyjacker Extreme Rock Crawling Nationals circuit. The competition will be among the fiercest this season, as the competitors will be risking life, limb and their good name to overcome the obstacles and outdoing, among others, the Summit Truck Style rig of Mike Shaffer and spotter Lance Clifford. These two have dominated the season with two back-to-back wins that begin with Farmington and end with Vernal. If not for Ken Shupe and spotter Moose McNally, they would have had a third consecutive win. But Shupe and the legendary Moose put an end to it with a win of their own at the most recent event, Cedar City. There's no doubt, that when these two teams face off on the rocks, they will again prove to be the most exciting and most entertaining of the field.

At a mere two-hour drive from the Los Angeles area, the rocks at Johnson Valley will provide for the most spectator-friendly rock crawling event in the world. Standing in the center of all the action, you'll be able to glance in any direction and catch a 360-degree panorama of the best rock crawling talent and most sophisticated off-road engineering ever.

The notorious "Voice of RCAA" will provide up-to-the-minute commentary for all those within earshot of the action. There will be concession stands to quench your thirst and bulge your belly. And for all those who cannot make it, there'll be coverage throughout the day provided by the entire staff of Off-Road.com. We'll be there with our satellite phone, lap tops, still cameras, video cameras, Jeeps and the ever-fast Baja.net Lothringer buggy, providing you with the most comprehensive coverage anywhere.

Contingency and tech inspection will be held at Thursday in Yucca Valley, but the action goes down on the rocks of Johnson Valley on September 20-21. We'll see you then!
