Crandon, Wis. (June 26, 2005)—What can two consecutive victories do in an already close battle in the Pro-Lite division? For Chad Hord and his BOSS Snowplow Nissan, sweeping Rounds 5 and 6 of the CORR Lucas Oil Series moved him from a seven-point deficit over Steven Federico to a 17-point lead, 95-79.

The weekend concluded with the 12th annual Brush Run Governor’s Cup Challenge, where Josh Baldwin capped off his 29th birthday with a victory in the challenge pitting a race between the Pro-4, Pro-2 and Sportsman 2 drivers. With the two-wheel drivers getting a handicapped start over the Pro-4 drivers, Scott Taylor took the early lead, holding the lead for the first five laps before Jason Baldwin took over the lead on Lap 6 of the ten lap race. On Lap 7, Josh Baldwin took over second-place. On the final turn, Jason Baldwin got caught up when a truck stalled in front of him, giving the lead to Josh to claim the Governor’s Cup Trophy.

In Round 5 of the Pro-Lite division, Hord battled with Kyle LeDuc in the first two laps. On the third lap, Hord took over the race lead, building a comfortable lead over fellow Nissan driver Art Schmitt and Jeff Kincaid. Kincaid passed Schmitt on the final lap to finish second in Round 5, and Schmitt finished third.

In Round 6 of the Pro-Lite division, Hord again had a good start, but he trailed Kyle LeDuc for four laps before he was able to take the lead on the seventh lap. Randy Eller’s Maxxis Tire Chevrolet took over the lead on the second lap before Hord passed him on Lap 7. Eller would finish second, his best career CORR Pro-Lite finish.

Art Schmitt’s Nissan Frontier took the lead from the land-rush start, and was knocked off pace, but he battled back to finish third for the second race in a row. With Federico holding second-place in the current standings, Schmitt moved into third-place in the division standings with 75 points, followed by Kincaid with 70.

Ken Stout, the pit reporter for the CORR Lucas Oil Series on Speed Channel, borrowed a Nissan Pro-Lite from Art Schmitt Racing, giving him the opportunity to experience first hand what Championship Off Road Racing is all about. In Round 5, a gear problem dropped Stout into 20th place, and in Round 6, Stout finished 12th.

The formula is rather simple, but few have been able to master the calculations. For 6-time defending Pro-2 champion Scott Taylor and his Skyjacker Ford, every element needed to win a CORR championship has been in place for the last six years, and it appears his team is not ready to relinquish the #1 plate.

Benefiting from taking the lead at the tricky land rush start at the Crandon International Off Road Raceway in both rounds, Taylor held the lead in Rounds 5 and 6 to win both rounds, increasing a slim two point lead over Josh Baldwin after Round 4 into a 101-82 lead after Round 6.

Taylor’s impressive run in the Pro-2 division overshadowed Brian Hinman, the 2004 Pro Rookie of the Year. Hinman had a career best 2nd place finish in both rounds, with impressive runs holding off Josh Baldwin in Round 5 and Evan Evans in Round 6. Hinman moved from 6th place into 3rd (73 points) in the Pro-2 standings.

John Greaves’ start to the 2005 season was rather unusual considering his impressive resume. After the first four rounds, Greaves’ best finish was 5th, and he was in 7th place, two points from last place. In Round 5, Greaves returned to a familiar track with a truck ready to break free. Greaves drove his Forest County Potawatomi Toyota to its first victory of the season, taking the hole shot from the start and not looking back. Carl Renezeder finished 2nd, his fifth straight top-two finish, and Josh Baldwin finished 3rd.

In Round 6, Greaves and the Lucas Oil Chevrolet of Carl Renezeder were bumper to bumper at the start, with Renezeder stretching to the lead. With Greaves close behind, Renezeder held the lead until Lap 8, when smoke billowed out of Renezeder’s truck, giving Greaves the opportunity to take the lead. With three laps remaining, Jason Baldwin passed Greaves for the lead, eventually taking the checkered flag.

Baldwin’s victory in Round 6 was his second victory in the last three rounds. Greaves finished 2nd, and Josh Baldwin finished 3rd for the second race in a row. In the Pro-4 standings, Renezeder maintained his lead, 103 to 94 over Jason Baldwin. Josh Baldwin is in third with 76, and Greaves moved into fourth-place with 72 points.

For Rounds 5 & 6 in the Sportsman 2 division, it was as easy as 1-2-3 for Dan Baudoux, Ross Hoek, and Ben Wandahsega. By winning both rounds, Baudoux regained the division lead over Wandahsega, 99-98. Wandahsega did not waiver, as his Forest County Potawatomi/Toyo Tires Chevrolet finished 3rd for both rounds. Ross Hoek’s Skyjacker/Toy Tires truck placed 2nd in both rounds, moving him into fourth-place with 73 points, four points behind Mike Savage (77 points.)

In the Stock division, Keith Steele (Round 5) and Dave Waldvogel (Round 6) traded victories and 2nd place finishes to remain on top of the division standings. Both drivers now have two wins in 2005. Steele leads Waldvogel 98-93, with Scott Beauchamp (84 points) in third. Beauchamp finished 3rd in both rounds.

In the Super Buggy division, Canadians Corry Heynen (Round 5) and Gary Nierop (Round 6) each picked up their first victories of 2005. For Nierop, it was his first career CORR win. Aaron Hawley finished 3rd in Round 5 and 2nd in Round 6 to maintain a sizable 96-65 lead over both Nierop and Mike Geiser.

Steve Socha (Round 5) and Mark Steinhardt (Round 6) each picked up their first wins of the season in the Single Buggy division. Michael Seefeldt, kept his division lead with a 5th place finish in Round 5 and a 2nd place finish in Round 6. Seefeldt leads Steinhardt 90-85, with Socha in third-place with 79 points.

Entering the 2005 season, Craig Metz had 3 career Light Buggy divisions. After sweeping Rounds 5 and 6 at Crandon, Metz nearly doubled his career victory totals. Metz moved from 8th place into third with 67 points. Ben O’Connell took over the division lead, 92-83 over Jeff Virnig, who suffered a 21st place finish in Round 6 when he flipped.
