Salt Lake City, Utah - Supercrawl III is all about the ultimate in professional motorsports. In the past couple years, Nelson & Nelson Racing has taken the world of professional rockcrawling by no surprise with their innovative vehicles designs and fierce competitive spirit. We arrived to Salt Lake City a day early and had the chance to join Nelson & Nelson Racing on the Bonneville Salt Flats only 120 miles out of Salt Lake City, Utah. Since they were in the area for UROC Supercrawl III, they decided to give a whirl at breaking a class world speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats. Pops Nelson has been working on one of his newest innovative projects for the past year. The Chevy Aurora powered speed vehicle had all the finishng touches applied in the past month as Pops, Jon and Eric all prepared to break the 187 mph Class F World Record. The Nelson & Nelson Racing vehicle was brand new out of the box fabricated at the famed Nelson & Nelson Race Shop in Hemet, California. Arriving with BFGoodrich's Dennis Weaver to the Bonneville Salt Flats we were greeted and led into the Nelson & Nelson Racing Pits by Jon Nelson sporting around on a high-speed bar stool. This was the perfect start of the day. All three of the Nelson Racing engineers readied Pop's car for their very first run ever. With the oil warmed and Pop's sliding into his race suit the action was about to begin. They rolled the yellow torpedo looking vehicle to the start line on the 3-mile short course for a qualification run. Pop's was going to have to run 175 mph in this brand new car right before he could move onto the 7-mile long course. They pushed started the race car from the start line, a normal procedure in this type of racing, and the high-powered Chevy Aurora fired up and the yellow torpedo jetted off on the short course. Only moments later, we discovered Pop's Nelson had run 210 mph in his first run and successfully moving over to the 7-mile long course for a record breaking run on Thursday morning. The race vehicle was impounded by Bonneville Race Officials until the Thursday morning where Pops backed up his first run and captured the Bonneville Class F World Speed Record with a 210.90 mph run. Another first in the Nelson & Nelson Racing stable as Pop's Nelson was christened into the Bonneville 200 mph Club! Congrats to the entire Nelson & Nelson Racing family for a tremendous win only one day before heading to Supercrawl III in search of another big professional motorsports win. Nelson Escort to the pits!
