Update | Buffalo Bill's Casino, Nevada – Under the massive black clouds, the dark is illuminated by radical lighting storms here at the PRIMM 300. With threats of rain...look out as this race might be wet and muddy as Mother Nature barks and shines the bright lightening bolts around the start/finish line.
P PRIMM goes off under the Nevada skies... |
Buffalo Bill's Casino, Nevada – Under the disguise of the beautiful serene desert south of Las Vegas, Nevada, the SCORE International PRIMM 300 is set to rage in the dirt, as man and machine battle against the rough desert terrain. Word has it the scene will equal the antics of Buffalo Bill's Tree Bar scene last night at midnight.
The world's toughest desert racers have descended upon what is expected to be a very difficult race course here in the back parking lot of Buffalo Bill's casino. Facing mild weather conditions that include cooler than normal temperatures and intermittent showers, the SCORE Primm 300 race course has been doused with a sprinkling of rain in the past couple days. However, that will not stop the most technologically advanced off-road racing machines ever manufactured from raging hell in the Nevada desert. John Marking's co-driver, Tom Geviss, a long time veteran desert racer commented, "The course is rough as hell and littered with sharp rocks. The key to this race is run smooth and take it easy...maybe!"
The ominous thick clouds that are covering the local peaks are exactly what the desert doctor ordered as desert racings top dogs have descended here to show whose boss of the Nevada desert.
Will it be Alan Pflueger, Scott Steinberger, Mark Post, Dale Ebberts, Marty Coyne, Larry Ragland or one of the many others who have completed contingency as they prepare to run the PRIMM 300 early Saturday morning.
PRIMM contingency is always off-the-hook as the hottest ladies from America arrive to the city of sin to watch bad-ass desert racers roar through the desert. This is no different as hordes of scantily clad beauties walked contingency row flaunting the best in American beauty. Man, machine, beauty and desert racing all in one is one hell of an entertainment package. Some of the latest news in off-road desert racing was announced by Robby Gordon himself at the DIRTsports magazine premier on Wednesday evening. Robby was in town to attend the DIRTsports premier and was presented an award as one of the top five most influential persons in off-road motorsports. He took the opportunity and announced to the desert racing world that he and Walker Evans will share seat time in the Robby Gordon trophy truck at the 2004 Baja 1000 off-road race. Robby will take off from the start line in Ensenada and Walker will bring the #31 trophy truck across the finish line in La Paz.

SCORE race Press Release
9/10 |
September 10, 2004
Record 191 entries for Saturday’s
9th SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300
PRIMM, Nev.—A race-record 191 vehicles have officially
entered Saturday’s 9th SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 desert race,
including 21 of Southern Nevada top racers hoping for a home-desert
advantage.
The 325.6-mile race will be run as a five-lap race over a desert
course of 65.1 miles. For the third straight year, the race has
been split into two groups with the open wheel and VW baja bug
classes starting at 6 a.m. The truck classes, including the
featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division along with the unlimited Class
1 open-wheel class, will start at 1 p.m. One vehicle will start
every 30 seconds in the elapsed-time race, with an 8-hour time
limit.
The start/finish line area, the primary spectator area and main
pits will be located in the special events compound behind Buffalo
Bill’s Resort in Primm. The slower classes will run three or
four laps. Admission will be free to the spectator area, which will
have grandstands as well as the SCORE Vendor’s Village.
Racing action is being held for 17 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for
cars and trucks. All race-records, Class 1-2/1600 tops the field
with a race-high 39 entries, followed by Class 1 (33), Class 10
(22), SCORE Trophy-Truck and SCORE Lite (17).
Celebrating its 31st anniversary this year as the World’s
Foremost Desert Racing Series, the SCORE Desert Series is back in
Southern Nevada for the last of its two U.S. races this season. The
season started in Laughlin.
And while all of the 21 Southern Nevada racers entered so far are
capable of a podium finish in their respective classes, none are
more likely to pull out gold medal finishes than the three Herbst
brothers and Rob MacCachren, all of Las Vegas. Knocking on the door
of victory lane could well be fellow local second-generation racers
John Gaughan and Brian Collins.
With 12 of 16 of last year’s class winners in this race (two
have switched classes) along with all of the top 10 overall
finishers in the starting grid, local racers will have to contend
with many of the world’s top desert racers, including 47 who
have combined for 64 class wins in the first eight years of this
increasingly popular event.
